Okay...so every now and then my car wont start up. First when i try to start it up...all i hear are a bunch of clicks. And eventually when i try to turn it over there is nothing. As if i didnt push the clutch in and tried starting it. Sometimes it will eventually fire up, but sometimes i need to push start it to get it working..and then it will act fine for a month or so.
This is the weird part. When this happens...the oil pressure light and check engine light get really dim and sometimes flicker. Also..the check engine and oil light get brighter if i release the clutch pedal and i also hear a click when i do this.
There is an alarm installed on the car which was done by the previous owner...i took out my gauge cluster to find alllllll kinds of wires...some left exposed and cut.
Im thinking i should just rip the whole alarm out and start fresh. It just seems like it was installed sloppy.

sounds like your starter but could be something related to your alarm...however
i would recommend changing out the starter and see if it does it again. the starter solenoid is probably going out on you.

i agree, most likely the starter though

you think the starter solenoid could cause my gauge cluster go out of whack? Also..when this problem occurs..the tach on my gauge cluster goes up and down randomly. And it only happens when this issue comes up.
This is so frustrating...i know its an electrical issue, but with this damn alarm install, it could be anything...sigh..i hate electricity.

im actually having the same prob wit the car not starting except for the oil/engine light problem... im for sure that u have a starter problem and those gauges wire has nothing to do wit ur car not starting.. i got mine fix for $300 for parts and labor
the lights on the dash do go dim when u start the car..it does that normally when the car is cranking...change the starter and see if the problem is still there before messing with the alarm. i'm almost 90% sure its the starter.
u can buy the starter itself for around $150 and do it yourself...very very simple to do.

When my starter was dying on my old DA i had a similar problem, my fuel gauge (as weird as it is) would start going up as im trying to crank it. So i agree, starter.

Your trminals from your battery could be corroded or there could be a loose connection...
sometimes My car wont start and I have my girl sit in the driver seat and try to start it while I move my terminals around...
sometimes you need to clean them up too...
with steel wool or sometihng

I had that problem last week. Car would take about 15 turns to get it to turn over. Some people say it was a bad ground on my starter and i checked that. But in the end, it was the starter. But either case, take care of those wires behind your gauges. That could cause all kinds of problems for you. Possibly the reason why some of the lights back there go dim or get bright.

So it seems a lot of people are saying its the starter. That would cause my gage cluster to go outa wack?
Well the problem occurs about once a month. So its hard to say what it is. Once it really pisses me off I'll change the starter.
