Default NEED HELP! QUESTION ABOUT GSR CAT! AND O2 SENSOR

ok guys..

well im just asking if im able to get a gsr cat from a obd1 gsr and weld a bung hole and put a o2 sensor in there for my obd2 98 gsr... is this possible?

sure... get a bolt of the right size from home depot and find a friend who knows how to weld.

of course, this is just speculation on my part, but i dont see any problem with it working. there may be a better method.

but the thing is will i throw off codes? since the obd1 gsr cat wasnt made for a o2 sensor


i just want to save my self some money... lol

Yes a welder can do that for you. Most shops may say no cause its illegal to modify an oem cat. However, the catalyst inside the obd1 cat is different than the obd2. it may throw a code cause the cat isnt doing its job. Depending where you live, it might not pass emissions testing either.

You also have to think about this. OBD1 was available in 94-95, so you're putting a 12-13 year old part on your car and hope it passes smog to save a few bucks. Even with OBD2, the youngest cat you may be able to find is from 2001 which is 7 years old.

is that so? i had no idea. cats have been around since i think like '75. i figured the only change theyd made was making them 3 way.

as long as the cat does work, it shouldnt throw a code. make sure both your o2's are good and you should pass
