Default Exactly what point (rpm) you shift gears when in vtec mode?

I know it's kind of a noob question but some people have different answers.

If you're a GSR, shift as high as possible from 1st to 2nd or you might end up falling below 5700 and closing up the secondaries again. Otherwise, most will say to see where you make peak hp and use that as your shift point. it may be different for each gear. Others will say it needs to be calculated using gear ratios etc.

For the B18C1, you shift right before the fuel cutoff for maximum performance. The HP will always decrease when you shift for that engine.

Why the hell would you smack your rev limiter? All that does is waste even more time before shifts after already wasting time going past the band when your motor stops making power anyway. It's vtec not vtak or vtek or vtech or vtac

About the gsr shift point. I belive the stock limiter is 8400. I shift at 8300-8400 exact and no matter what, i always drop below 5700 and takes probably 200-300 rpms to get back into the secondaries. Is this normal or is it my gearing?

You do not want to hit the rev limiter. For the stock B18C1, the power made at 8200 RPM is still greater than the power made at 6000 RPM. Yes, the power has already peaked before 8200 RPM, but it is a misconception that the engine stops making power. The optimal shift point in that case is just before the rev limiter.

8200, and if you are shifting at 8000,chances are it's actually 8200. the factory honda/acura tach is always off.

Not everyone would catch that point due to inexperience, etc. That is why it is poor form to do that.

Yeah I didn't catch the sarcasm with the rev limiter, because:
1. I know people that do it and think thats good or means their car's fast, etc
2. The amount of people that type vtak and other incorrect iterations of vtec astound me by their randomness sometimes, so i associate that with the ricer thing not all idiots I understand but it's an automatic label when I read posts

you would know when to shift if you got one of those 5 inch monster tachs with a shift light, and set it for 8200 rpm's.

For maximum acceleration, get the revs as high as you can without hitting the rev limiter. Shifting at redline is close enough.

For maximum fuel economy, shift with the revs as low as you can without the engine lugging after the upshift.
