Is this for the track? For street use, that tire size is much too big for a '97-00 Civic. Stick with 205/45-16 or 215/45-16.

No, it won't.

The big difference between tires is between models; tread width is a minor factor (and a wider tire actually makes acceleration worse). So if you want better performance, concentrate on getting better tires, rather than wider tires.

There is no street tire in 235/45-16 that will give your car better performance than the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 215/45-16 or the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R in 205/45-16 (or, if you need something longer-lasting that does well in rain, the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 in 205/45-16). These are the best tire choices, with the best performance, for your daily-driven high-horsepower '97-00 Civic. However, the only one of these three choices approved for use on 16x8 wheels is the RT-615 in 215/45-16, so that's the one you should get.
