What engine?
How many miles?
How's the radiator look?
Any drips on the garage floor?
Any Steam from under hood?
Any bubbles in the coolant overflow while running?
How pressurized does you upper radiator hose feel?
Where is the coolant gone from? ie. Is the radiator empty/low or the coolant overflow?
Hows the coolant overflow tank look?
etc. etc.

If you don't care tons about the engine, just throw in some barrs leak and call it a day... (this is semi-bad advice - I've had this work in the past for all kinds of stuff, but in the long run you need to find the actual cause)

sorry i posted someting about this awhile ago and no one answered. its a d16Zg with a greddy 15g turbo kit. about 150k on the block and 75k on the head. radiator looks fine, no drips on the floor but there is some on the tranny? no steam, no bubbles in the overflow. upper radiator hose feels kind of soft. and the coolant is leaving from the radiator. everything looks prime. ill fill it up and then a couple days later i have to fill it up again but like i said its weird. no white smoke when its warm out, the oil is clean and so is the coolant. i can smell coolant comming from the vent at times which happends every once in a while. fan kicks in fine but the coolant level keeps dropping. ive heard you can have a hg problem and not have white smoke?

could be loose clamp on upper hose, also if you can smell it through the vents when you kick it on, id say it is a cracked heater core

new clamps and tightened them down. i dont always smell it thru the vents its very rare but im assuming its the heater core hopefully. not in the mood to work on this in the winter.

You can eliminate or implicate the heater core by pulling the hoses and looping them together (granted you'd have to go without heat for a week, but you'd know for sure then).

I'm not sure what else you'd have going on unless its leaking slowly from a small crack in the block or between the head an the block, or from the water pipe and perhaps making it down to the exhaust and evaporating (why you smell it occasionally). I'd guess its not an HG though - if it were leaking to the oil, you'd see it, if it were leaking into the chambers you'd at least see a bubble or two in the overflow & the upper hose would be pressurized (85% certain - anyone feel free to contradict me)

I've completely forgotten, is the turbo on the Greddy kit water cooled?

okay the upper hose is pressurized and i can see a couple bubbles in the overflow after i fill it. and the turbo is oil cooled only.

I'd say you probably have a small HG leak - Yo probably know what your options are at this point. I'd throw in some barrs leak copper (In fact I have in a very simliar situation, and it worked fine) because it's a d-series and if the fix works, then great, and if it doesn't you have to replace the HG anyway, and if it f's up the water pump or clogs something, you buy another D-series and flush out the heater core and rad and try again.

If you wanna do it right though, replace the HG from the get.

GL with it. You can pressurize the rad and see if there is any pressure leakdown or have the coolant analyzed for combustion gases to verify that the HG is indeed your problem.

(I haven't seen the car or anything, so, take this all with a grain of salt esp. the barrs leak thing - some people hate the stuff, but I think i outlined my reasons for recommending it above.)
