Default First timer with slicks, advice on size. B16 turbo EK

Hi guys, looking for a little advice. I attend the strip about once a month with a pretty much daily driven EK, im looking to upgrade to a set of M+H slicks but have a few Qs regarding sizing.

I want to use a 15" rim to avoid any clearance issue.

Approx 360bhp B16 (sc61) with stock Si tranny, street suspension and no other drag specific mods. Currently struggling to get into 2.2 60fts on Yokohama Paradas.

Looking at the 7.5/23.0-15 Racemaster Drag Slicks unless someone has more info for me or a better suggestion. Will these clear fenders etc? Will the 8.5/23.0-15 Fit and is it a better option?

Any info appriciated.

Craig

And will either sizes be ok with a 6.5" rim width?

The size you should use is the 23x8.5x15. But the problem will be putting it on a rim wide enough. the general rule is to use rims that are about 1-1.5" wide from the slick width. Each slick actually has its own recommended rim width and try to get as close to that as possible.

at 2" wide on the rim width to the slick width, will affect the contact patch of the slick. The slick is designed to have the max contact patch when close to the recommended rim width. The more you go away from that, the contact patch changes on the tire and its not going to function at its best ability.

Another option you have is go with a 13" drag rim. You'll have more choices on slick size and its the most common rim width used for fwd honda drag slicks.

Will any 13" rims clear stock Si brake calipers?

Thanks for the input guys. I have a pair of 15x6.5 wheels here that i would like to use if the 13s wont clear, in this case I should use the 7.5 width slick as detailed above.

ps - exospeed - Im still awaiting a reply to an email i sent requesting shipping info of a built block to the UK, PM sent as a reminder : )

Yes, the Lenso 13X8 or 8.5 will clear SI brakes, and with the M&H 24.5X8.5X13 tires you will have an excellent setup. You may have to raise the front of your car for clearance, but they work quite well.
This combo will get you into the 1.XX 60' range. At 8 psi I went 1.81 and at 7 psi the car dropped to 1.67 60'.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Will all the Lenso 13x8 clear?

Im having a little trouble sourcing a pair in this size here in the UK but ill keep looking.

Exospeed - If you could PM me a price shipped to the UK for your wheel and slick combo that would be great, maybe even combine shipping with the block??

Another Newbie Q :
Tube or no tube?
And what sort of tyre pressure should i use as a base for the first few runs?

Check with Exospeed, I think he's a Lenso dealer. I don't think they offer but 1 backspacing? not sure.
As for pressure, start at @ 9 psi and go down from there, I've had my best 60' times at 7psi but guages differ so just start at 9 or 10 psi and try it.

Thanks Bruised. YEs the VPD 13x7.5 will clear the Si brakes. They are made specificially to clear all of the popular Honda 4x100 applications(civic and integra).

I've Pmed you JordanCivic on your other questions.

No tube.
You will be amazed at the weight of the tire/wheel combo. I've got Bogarts and ET fronts on the rear and the Lenso's with slicks are very comarable in weight.
They will stick out of the fenders a bit but they are well worth the trouble of raising your car up (@ 3 rounds for me) from my 225x50x15 BFG drag radials.

it is preference.
i prefer them, i think the car is little more stable with them at 6.5 psi. when i first ran on slicks at e town, they were not tubed. and somehow i picked up a pinhole in the e town pits, so talking to john at m and h, patching wasnt an option he suggested tubing the slicks. and i did notice a difference in weight, but the car was a bit more stable up to. but again thats my preference.

Sorry, that was just a recommendation about the tubes. As for 6.5psi, I haven't tried it that low, I bogged my car on 1 pass at 7psi and went up to 7.5 and didn't bog but I don't have but about half the HP that boostedcivcsir does. On the stability issue, how is your toe set? because I haven't noticed any problems. I run mine straight up.
