I did search to start out (dang us noobs) i was wondering about how much you spent TOTAL for the H22 swap... It would be going into a 93 del sol. If you break it down that would be cool but if not i understand because there is just too much to type. Im trying to find the price of not just the parts but with some of the modification that was needed also... I would like to know price all the way including a piece of electrical tape used... I wouldnt mind ballpark either tho... Im not asking what i need... just the price from someone that has done the swap. Thanks for looking and all and any help! Victor

Any body have anything to tell me? Maybe a reason why you wouldnt do it? I mean besides the claim of increased weight and everything.... To much fabrication needed? Anything?

Well i found a H22a with a 5spd trans complete engine for $1800..... but i wouldnt mind someone putting it in for me either... since im pretty busy with school too.... i would like to be able to drive it by this summer... You know what i mean... its parked right now (for winter) and because im doing some body work too.... So now would be almost perfect. Ill double check on there too. Thanks

I also came up with a question... It seems as if I were to use forged pistons I would need to resleeve the piston... Has anyone else heard of this? I guess because of the fiber and aluminum used inside the engine.... Anything about this?

Yeah, the H22's used FRM (Fiber Reinforced Metal) sleeves - it's a compound metallic material. The problem with it is that it doesn't seal well to new piston rings after it's been used. So you have to get the cylinders bored out and re-sleeved with steel sleeves - then you can put new pistons in it.

Still looking around, I found a shop out here that gave me a qoute of $3,300.00. That includes parts and labor. He said he would promise no longer then a week to do it. He also offered me $500. Now included in the price is a tranny. I was told by alot of people that I should keep my tranny. Because of the higher gears, it would be great with a future turbo application. What are you opinions?

Ya, And thats what I was saying. H engine and B tranny. The only problem with that is that I think my 3rd gear is starting to take a crap. From what I understand I guess it happens to 3rd and 5th alot on Honda trannys.
H2B is alot more money and from what I know requires frame mods to fit right. With a straight H22 swap you can get optional factory LSD trans, that's the way I'd go, and also no body/frame mods are required if a good mount kit is used.
$3300 with all parts/labor sounds decent, if they use a quality mount kit.

I honestly would go H2B frame mods are minimal to none and dont recquire much skill or effort. It may cost a little more but from the way things are going B series transmissions are alot more disposable and easier to obtain. To your grinding question yes 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, And sometimes Reverse cause problems with getting into gear but I have also experienced these to be a common trouble spot in alot of Toyotas, Nissans, Fords, GMC's, ETC. It has everything to do with how the transmission has been treated as well as 2-5 being the most commonly used gears. 1st Not so much due to the fact that a majority of the populous driving standard vehicles only use first when in heavy traffic, Areas where faster acceleration is needed, Or from a dead stop on a hill other wise 2nd usually does the trick on a slight incline, level ground, Or a decline. optional LSD means nothing when A B series transmission which can have a shorther or longer gearing ratio compared to H transmissions also can come with an optional lsd OR an OBX LSD can be obtained for less than 500 dollars.

He seems to be able to get the job done pretty cheap and if you find the right shop they can have it done rather quickly and cheaply. It is all up to you though H series dropped straight in will recquire the top of the engine to be pointed toward the firewall so it will fit and the Hood still needs to be raised to accomadate the swapped motor. Header will recquire modification either way as it will need to be bent so it doesnt point toward the ground or you will have to buy a swap specific replacement. Look over his thread a little as well as a couple others I dont think there are many threads on the site doing the straight swap but there are probably a couple. I would try to see if you could get a time in between classes like after spring session where you could set a 4 day weekend aside to do the swap yourself because it can be had for less than 3k that way and you could put that money you saved up toward some other mod or save it for later on down the road.
A good guy to talk to would be EK forever guy he is like obsessed with the H2B and knows his ****. Also if other questions come up you might be able to post them up to bense and them as he is a genius with trans options as well as wiring.

There are shops in illinois that do this conversion. It's not hard anymore.

You need the engine, mounts, shift linkage, etc. etc. The swap should come with everything but the mounts to put it into a civic chassis. Hasport makes good mounts. There are other companies that make good mounts as well. BUY GOOD MOUNTS OR YOU WILL BE BUYING A TON OF AXLES AND OTHER DRIVELINE PARTS.
If you want the B16A or ITR trans (awesome mod) via the H2B kit, then there's the extra cost. Decide whether you want to do this or not first. The mounts are different, and so is the shift linkage. If you decide first, you dont have to buy mounts twice.

WRONG! You dont need to resleve the block there are a few companies out there that make a piston to go with h22 stock sleves for exzample I used Mahle's in my turbo H with stock sleves. There is a whole thread on them just go to serch and type in Mahle pistons and you will see.

This is really tempting. I was not too sure if I wanted to follow through with the H22 because I would want to turbo the car as soon as I can save up some money again. But I wouldn't want to have the engine to be taken out of the car to get it honed and resleeved in order to get it preped for a turbo. But with the link to the H22 safe pistons. When I go home this weekend I am going to get a hold of One6 Motorsprots. I will try and figure how to make sure I can get PM's...... Thanks to everyone! Victor
