Well guys with some of this warmer weather coming in this week, it has really gotten me motivated to get this fabrication shop going! The lineup will be Myself, Dan, and FTW(Frank the Welder)(Sinisterbikes.com,frankthewelder.com) First project will be doing up a nice cage, seat rails, making radiator, fuel lines etc, in Dans 99 Audi 1.8T. Next is going to be the fun part
As of right now i am still undecided on what kind of class or rules i am going to be falling under with the 08 project. I purchased a 28' fully enclosed trailer last weekend so this week has been taking the stickers off her, cleaning it up, doing some electrical to it(mostly installing 4 4' lights)
We have got some serious plans for 08 hoping to see some 10's this year if the car can get dialed in right. Chasi
As of now the motor will be staying basically the same as it is now.

lol!! Hey were just startn' up! Just looking around now for the best deals on 4130 for about 200' Only shitty part is shipping... But you gotta do what ya gotta do!

 

Here's some updated pics! Got the carpet all out and moved the wiring out of the way so we could clean up the paint and make it weldable. We were able to make our 4 6x6 plates today! Tomorrow should be welding them all in a forming them perfect. Let me know what ya think.

Well got the interior mostly out and scrapped the tar off the inside. Chipped right off with a gasket remover and hammer. Car sat in a garage over night in 0 degree temps which helped in the process. Got our bender the other day. Its a JD squared model 3. Waiting on our metal to be shipped from our distributer should be here in a couple days. About 15 full lengths of 4130 Chrommmolly.Here's some updated pics! Notice I ditched the wing finally! lol

Well guys have i been busy these past couple of weeks. Picked up a truck last sunday. 95 ford f350 dully 7.3 Powerstroke! Its a pretty nice truck for the price. Should tow the trailer and car nicely. Gonna do 1 6" stack in a few weeks with a full turbo back 4"-5" to 6" stack!.
As far as the car in concerned here is our process as of now. I would like to hear and suggestions/ inpt wether it be good or bad. This is our first race car cage so we are still kinda figuring stuff out. We have i think everything as far as shop materials now to get the job done. Also have auto cad loaded on here for frank.

not sure why you have all those extra bars going to the wheel well ???

also, the lower cross bar(main hoop) is split in the middle ? why ?

why didnt you tie the rear down bars to the shock tower cross bar, rather than the plate attached to the tower ?

 

This builder prefers the b pillar tube support diagnol tubes at close to 45 degrees on dragsters. When we go to a full chassis we will tie in along the way with larger tubes.(remove the smallers ones) Rear supports are just to tie the car together for now, till i go full tube chassis.

I don't care if he's hating or not, Dave's been around for a while and i trust his along with alot of others on heres judgment and i take it with an open mind! This is our first race cage so we are learning as we go. Thanks for the input

 

..what class is the car being built for? DaveF has a point, whats with all the extra bars? ....check out 203's cage.

 

the car is not currently falling into a class as of now, but i'll figure something out. Which extra bars are you talking about?

 

i looked at 203's post. The bars connecting all the way to the rear by the hatch do nothing really. If they are their for support the cabin would be the only thing needed for rigidity as you are just driving stright. If it was rally or something then they would be needed.

Quick update. Cage is done, minus the drivers door bar and steering collom mount, waiting on a seat, borgason collapsable collom. Wire harness is done, and being sent back to me as we speak! I'll update with pics when i receive it. Still gotta get some brake lines and such to run line lock/staging break.
Will update this asap.

 

Update again! Cage is painted. (Rustoleum Textured finish) Wire harness is back! Had Chasebays do it for me. Came out awesome. Had everything eliminated that isn't needed to run the car. I will run a simple 12v circuit for the headlight/taillights. Got a couple panels back in. Needn' some misc things that i should be able to pick up from Rota this evening. Then off to Synapse for the tune!!!

Looking good. Where is the driver side door bar? Isnt it needed if you plan to run it in any class. If not for class why not just peace of mind.

 

drivers side door bar is made and painted allready just waiting on my fab man to make seat mounts and steering column then we can seal it off with the door bar!
