Default crx si

hey guys...im gonna start off by saying im more of a ek/cb guy.....new to crx's....anyway I found a 88 si...for $800 (from a friend)...has a zc (soch) motor with the stock si tranny....its a mint car (physically) but doesnt run...the kid had it last year when we were in high school and it ran for about 2 weeks when he bough it....then one day it got to normal op. temp and just died and hasnt ran since late 06....when they swapped it they used the stock computer(which i think that is where to the problem lies)....but anyways I wanted to know if the soch zc is a decent platform to build up and are parts become hard to find for these ef crx's...thanks alot

Sounds like a good deal. I'd check the ignition coil, I had mine die right in the middle of pulling out of a parking lot. You can fix up the ZC or swap in a B-series and have a fun little car for quite a steal. There is no shortage of CRX parts, that's for sure. Plus, they are the lightest "swap'able " Honda there is. I sure love mine.

Yeah, go through the common checks, give it a tuneup, test the dizzy and main relay. The stock PM6 (Si) ECU will work just fine with any OBD0 ZC, so there shouldn't be a problem there.

FIRST:

the stock ecu is the same ecu as they use on the zc but different red line/ fuel cut off.

SECOND:

The sohc zc is the same motor as the stock crx si d16a6, slight cam shaft lobe differences. Parts are the same as the a6.

THIRD:

If the car is mechanical and physically sound other than not running, this is a great deal and a good project for you. Just remember once you buy a crx you are hooked for life!

FOURTH:

check the normal reasons that a car doesnt run! GET a service manual!
