engine making rattling noise...?
Its making a rattling noise and I haven't yet driven it since I swapped it in a little while ago. The timing belt is correct but its a little loose. Its seems to idle ok but I thought maybe the throttle cable is not tight enough also. I drove it a few feet out of the garage and I didn't feel too much power. Its a d15b vtec, I don't really want to start driving it around till I'm sure everything is cool. I hope this video helps better describe the sound. If anyone has ideas please let me know. http://youtube.com/watch?v=mSv0rT4Zcv0
That's not a pretty sound at all. It sounds like there's a bunch of flaps oscillating in your intake or exhaust, haha. I assume that's not the case.
Check down in the timing belt cover to make sure nothing fell in there.
Next I'd pull the valve cover and see if everything looks alright. It might be valve related.

Well, I haven't driven it at all with this engine. I'm gonna just try to take it to a shop I know and have them do it since I've never done that. Dammit I want to drive my car! Wahh!
Valve adjustments aren't as hard as you'd think. But if you wanna get it over with, I guess you could give in and let someone do it for you. Let us know what it turned out to be, this will be a good learning tool for us all.
Sounds like a timing belt tensioner gone bad. Take off the motor mount, pull the cover and check the tensioner, im sure that your problem. Also dont start it anymore. TIghten that belt to, if that belt slips say by by to your head.

I had similar noise on my 1.5 and it was my tensionerd, but my water pump shaft was making all the rattling had to replace it.
Yeah the timing belt is correct but its probably stretched cause its old so it could slightly be off timing. Like I said, I can practically just push it off the cam gear. I tried tightening the tension bolt but its seems to be as tight as it can go, so I'm kind of lost there...? Any who, I'm almost positive now its valve/ timing belt related so I'm gonna just try to take it in to the shop. I know a little about my ride but I'm no mechanic.
Is it possible to repost your video? I want to see if its the same or similar noise my 85 CRX is making...
