Default D16 Timing Belt Tension...

I recently heard some slights noises while riding with my windows down the other day, Upon inspection, I found my timing belt is kinda loose, The belt was done right before I got the car, no tensioner noises or bearing noises, just the belt slapping little. Im still new to Hondas (not cars in general., Just trying to figure how you adjust the tensioner, belt looks really good still. I searched but didnt find anything definate for a single cam, If I missed it, I apologize. Thanks guys

You can loosen the 14mm timing belt tensioner bolt, and then pull up on the tensioner wheel itself, then tighten the 14mm bolt back.

The actual amount of tension is debatable, and honestly it't more of a "feel" type thing rather than something that's easily explained into words/specs.

The spring for the tensioner in "theory" should provide enough tension so that when you loosen the 14mm bolt the spring loads the pulley up enough to provide adequate belt tension, but it doesn't always work that way. Add some pressure upwards on the pulley wheel and bascially from there see if the belt gets "whiny" or not. A whining belt is a too tight belt.

Also there will always be more tension on the front side of the belt than the rear, because the slack for the belt falls to the rear.

Thats not good, cause mine def has more slack on the front then on the back. So pull the timing cover off, lossen the bolt, apply enough pressure, tighen bolt, done? I have all the diagrams etc printed off, Just trying to get procedure staight, Thanks man!

I think you need to turn the crank to get the slack on the side that the tensioner is on.

It would be counterclockwise but you only need to turn it a couple of degrees. About 1/4" is all then loosen bolt and tighten it and tighten it good.

Should be done every 10K or so

If you are fast, it should only take about 30 minutes, maybe even less start to finish.

Correct, counterclockwise, you'll see it put slack on the belt as soon as you start rotating the crankshaft.

I guess its due to the fact of having bad help, But I cant get it, I can can rotate the bottom and it will tighten, but as soon as I get everything tightened back up, There is INSANE slack on the front side, I got a friend on wis way over now that knows Hondas like I know v8s so hopefully he can lead me in the right direction
