All I saw when i opened this topic was:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"><FONT SIZE="7">"GENERIC TOPIC #9748649868960878097"</FONT></TD></TR></TABLE>

Why don't you help us help you:

1. Budget - be realistic

2. Horsepower goals

3. Boost? N/A?

Anyways there are 20+ B20/VTEC topics posted around H-T daily, and information on GS-R swaps has been solid online since 1998 or so.

There are too many ways to build a B20/VTEC to even compare it to any other engine really.

well if you wanna get 220 to 250 whp NA its going to cost your more then 6k on either engine. I know b20vtec with light mods will make 200whp easy. as for gsr there will be more money and less torque involved... id go with the B20 vtec. I like the b20 vtec on boost though... just my .02.

also adding to my stuff up top making 220-250 whp NA and keeping it leagal for emissions is going to be nearly impossible.

If you have a $6k budget and want a good amount of power, a boosted stock GSR would be my pick. I have (had) one and made great power on it. I have since spun a rod bearing and am rebuilding it for more power.

a boosted gsr stock will make about 300whp pretty easy and last for a decent amount of time. i know im boosting next summer on JDM B16 and ill be around 320 whp on stock bottom end, fulll skunk2 valvetrain, cams, IM, and fuel rail.

Mine lasted 2 years before an unrelated oiling issue caused it to spin a bearing...it is a mixed blessing though. Yes, it sucks that it is out of commission, but now i get to build it

Unless you're sleeving, the B20 is a terrible place to start. The stock sleeves are known to be weak and wont make much more power than what a normal stock block can handle. Starting with an LS or GSR would be a lot better option

I say get a GSR and resleeve the bottom end. That way, you will have all the advantages of a B20-VTEC without the B20 bottom end. Also, if you have to deal with any kind of visual smog inspection, the motor will look stock.

that doesnt make sense to me... if you resleeve a b20 it will be just as durable as a gsr.... and have more displacement.

It wouldn't make sense unless you live in California, or some other place that actually checks to see what you have under the hood during smog checks (like some places in the northeast). If you live in such a place, you have to resort to this kind of trickery in order to pass smog. After all, they WILL fail you if you have a B20 block with a VTEC head. Or, for that matter, just a B20 block (since it is considered swapping a truck engine into a car, which is not allowed). But nobody will ask any questions if you bring in what appears to be a stock GSR swap, but which happens to have 84mm bores.

Also, if you want the full displacement of a B20-VTEC, but with a GSR block stamp, all you need to do is use an LS crank and rods in a GSR block. It all fits perfectly.
