all of the quality sleeves should be good to 40 lbs of boost if properly installed, properly tuned engine, etc.

 

PSI is a worthless measure of power. The only real measure of what a sleeve can take is cylinder pressure. You can't even use horsepower as a sleeve strength measure because every engine is tuned differently, has different AFR's, different intake temps, etc.

 

most sleeving is pretty equal nowadays. do a search on sleeving im sure there are 1,454,502,207,339 threads on it. fwiw i have beat the absolute living hell out of aebs blocks and they never even flinched.

Its just a driver. Nothing exact, but a rough basis to go off of.

 

yeah , id say a very rough basis which pretty much has nothing to do with anything. so lets say they have it rated for 40psi or what ever. So you take turbo X and run it at 40psi which for turbo x is off the charts and its now a giant exhaust powered blow drier, now the air is super saturated with heat, you cant stop the motor from detonating sleeves crack from pressure spikes. So i guess your right its just an arbitrary number for selling stuff. Like stated earlier, cylinder pressure is the name of the game and how you control it. They cant rate them in horsepower because a 200whp heavily detonating motor will destroy sleeves before a 450hp properly tuned motor does. Is there a way they could accurately rate them? or is there just to many variables for anything to be set in stone.

 

i was in Advance Auto parts yesterday and saw some stuff called "Sleeve Adhesive" or something to that effect. I was amazed and never knew there was such a thing.

gotta luv it man.....whenever a thread begins with "word on the street" u can pretty much forget about it.

 

we have always said our sleeves can handle 70psi and over 1500hp because we are always asked what are sleeves have been tested to and some of our pro front wheel drive and hot rod cars have boosted that much and made that much power but most braced sleeves out there if installed right and tuned right can do the same its all a matter of how much you want to spend and who you like. most sleeves i see fail are installed by some mom and pop machine shop that don't know what there doing this is why we install all our sleeves in house but i am yet to see a sleeve crack only pistons melting and rods braking destroying sleeves

 

The horsepower i understand but the PSI is still too general. 70psi from what turbo or source?
