Default HELP! Trying to Diagnose GSR Tranny Problem....

Ok recently I just swapped the GSR tranny in my 95 GSR for a 00 Si tranny do to the fact on it going out. I have a 96 Coupe that i'm planning on swapping in a B20B with my old GSR tranny but I need to rebuild the tranny. The tranny ran fine until one day it just went out on me it never grinded or scratch or whined... The day the tranny ran out I was racing against my buddies S2000 and on my way home I was on the axis road going 50mph on 5th gear when with no warning the car would not accelerate...I poped it out of gear and put it in 5th again and the rpms would just go up but no acceleration....i put in 1,2,3,4, Reverse and the car would not move the only thing that would move was the RPM's. My big question is what is it that I have to replace in the tranny to get it working again...I'm pretty mechanically inclined but I rather get some opinions on what are the things I need to replace before I split the tranny open. My only guess is the ISB but there must be something else plus I doubt I tore the synchros apart....

No... the clutch was fine cuz when I bought the B16 tranny all i did was pull the GSR tranny out and installed the B16 tranny and it ran fine....every gear engaged perfect and the clutch felt the same.....

Any tranny guru's have an idea what could have busted?

Replace all the bearings while you're in there- I'm assuming you haven't done that since you stated you've never cracked it open. You must be new to Hondas, because synchros are a frequent weak link in their transmissions and are very likely to wear out.
Did you have any grinding after this happened? Did you have bad wheel hop during the race in question? Do you have an upgraded clutch? I broke my differential easily, and that could very well be your problem. Open that beotch up and check it out. It bet you have shattered spider gears in there. If it's anything like mine, you're looking for a new tranny to bolt to that B20

Well it's not my clutch cuz my integra still has the same clutch with the Si tranny....Someone said it might of shattered the spidergears and I'm thinking thats it now because when I drained the oil when I was pulling the tranny out the oil looked brown metallic with alot of metal shavings......

its obviously not syncros as he tried every gear. its gotta be in the FD probly the diff but its kinda odd for it to go all at once they usualy kinda do a painful slow death unless the gears just split in 2. To the OP are you sure if wasn't making any odd noises for awhile?

No it never whined or grinded plus when I launch I usually launch around 4k rpm 4.5k rpm nothing higher than that.....I remember I hit a bump and hear a little knock come from the engine bay that night it died but I stopped right away and checked if i was leaking any oil or if I could hear that knock again but nothing everything was fine i were down the road and back and it was fine so I decided to drive it home when it did what it did

So if the final drive broke it can cause the tranny to not move in any gear?

The problem is in the tranny because when I put the Si tranny on my GSR the problem was fixed....I don't think you guys are reading the post right.....

i just realized what you were trying to ask. the gsr tranny was in your car, but now the si tranny is. the gsr tranny had the problem (not moving) and the si tranny fixed that. i thought the broken tranny was still in the car.
