Default MY LS VTEC BUILD (8D)

OK, so I have been in the game for a quick minute and I have not only always wanted to do a "build thread", but a motor build period.

This is my first build and I would glady accept suggestions/comments from those who are experienced, I have the "how to build a "reliable" LS VTEC/B20" thread printed and binded..

I came up on a B18B1 from my buddy mannyman2 Thankx bro!!

Since I work at a machine shop that makes pistons, I was stoked. So on to the build..

Day one at the shop

The block got rained on... Only good for a rebuild. I brought the motor home in the trunk of my girlfriends Toyota Yaris!

The motor was pretty clean inside, the cams had rust forming on the lobes where they were touching the lifters....

Day 2 tear down of the block

day 4 block is bare

Now sending the block to get hot tanked, bored and honed.

Here is a link that I found helpful on engine assembly, although, you work at a machine shop so I am sure there are knowledgeable people around you. http://forums.evans-tuning.com...build

What are your plans for the motor? You going to run aftermarket rods/pistons or stick to stock rods/cast pistons? Have you made your choice on bearings that you are going to run (oem, acl, clevite, etc.).

Glad you asked, going to run:

-B16a head (port/polish, new V/T, ITR manifold, port T/B etc..)

-custom probe forged aluminum pistons (waiting for the block to get done before I make them)

-Probe Ultralite rods

-Clevite bearings

-ARP head studs, rod bolts

Still learning a lot every day about the build. I left out a lot obviously, still changing and generating the shopping list.

Havent decided on the cams there are alot of company's that seem to be pretty reputable, but I also have a lot of people at my work that have friends that manufacture all of the things I need, I am still sourcing

Valvetrain is also a undecided I'm in the process of reading the 1,000,000,000 + posts on the topic.

Got a question though, since you work at probe figured you would be good to ask. Do the probe rods come from the factory with arp rod bolts, or are you buying them separately to use?

Nice start to the build man. Keep up the pictures, I will definately be watchin the motor goin together if you keep everyone updated. When are you aiming to have the motor put together? Also, what car is it going into and what will it be used for? It looks like you work at the perfect place to take on a project like this. Good luck man

Thanks!! I will keep every one updated as best as I can. Not sure exactly when it'll be done, there is much to be done.

The motor is going in my 91 Civic SiR project. Used for road racing/ street/ occasional drag

Probe is a cool company, the owners are all interested cuz I'm the only one that's building a Honda.
