Trouble shifting into first
Under normal driving conditions, I sometimes can't get the car into first gear at a stop light. It is a 96 gs-r, that hasn't been abused(girlfriend won't let me tear it up).
Is there some kind of adjustment I can make? I did put a short shifter in it. It was one of those skinny ones where I had to add washers where it attached to the shift linkage to take up the extra space. It is as close to stock position as I could get it though. I didn't think it would make much of a difference.
A bad synchro into 1st? is that possible? has it happened to anyone?

it is possible to have a bad first gear syncro, but no one notices it because how often do you downshift into first? this doesnt sound like a syncro problem either, bad syncro's grind...
If you just can't get into first, I would start by putting the stock shifter back in to see if that makes a difference. (just to isolate the problem)
From my experience, those cheap short shifters only screw things up. A skunk2 shifter might be more suitable. If you dont want to spend hte money, just work on shifting faster, and dont wine about it.
