I thought you have choice of using clutch or not? Why is it not good on the street?
By hard to hurt them, do you mean hard to break them?
4speed do you mean the 1st 4gears are dog and 5th stock?

typically they will have a collar where there should be a 5th gear, that is to prevent the gears from pushing each other away and distroying both the gear/syncros and possibly the case,
they usually get rid of the sychro (you will have to rev match one gear to where it would drop into the next gear rpm wise) to have more surface are for the gear and not being helical (strait cut) will be pretty ruff to drive daily
oh and expect the retail to be over 1400 plus have someone install them

What do you require from the gears? Are you taking your car to the track/auto-x or are you drag racing?
What sort of power level is your engine making?
Without these answers, it is hard to point you in the correct direction.

I want track and drag, car will be 500-600whp. I just want a good box that will last for long, and not have to worry about abusing.
So far PAR suit's all my needs.
What's the progress with your gearset?

wow, you are using 600whp on track?
Track racing and drag racing use completely different gearing setups from one another (although it does depend on the course).
You will not find a gearset that will be perfect for both, especially with 600whp
As for the PPG's:
Gear ratios: 2.428 / 1.813 / 1.421 / 1.174 / 1.000
Final Drive: 5.545
The ratios are completely unsuitable for Drag Racing (44mph/58mph/74mph/90mph/106mph). They are only really suitable for a short Rally setup.
Why would you want to spend $3.5k on a rally gearset when you can can achieve the same result for under $1k (Click Here to see the comparison)? And "strength" does not come into it, as rally vehicles do not achieve anywhere near the same sort of shockloads as high-horsepower drag cars.

Erikos: Thats just as bad. You can achieve the same for under $600
Garage786: What kind of abuse will you be giving it? What is the point of spending thousands on a PAR for custom ratios when you are doing both track and drag. TBH, your best bet would be to stick to your stock ratios.

Go to my thread....some where near the end. RacerStev has been heat treating stuff for me and it has held up thus far. Tons of high hp launches, low 10sec passes and many street miles. Very inexpensive too when you look at the costs of some other sets out there.
