Default heat cycling R compound tires

Any suggestions on how to do so?

Some people recommend driving on the new R-compound tires on the highway for around 100 miles.

Others suggest doing skidpad style laps in a parking lot, 10 or so laps in each direction. But this would scrub more material off the tires than the first option.

How about cool down time? Some say dismount tires immediately after heat cycling, some say just park... let tires cool for 24-48 hours...

If you get your R compound tires from TireRack, they do the service for you...they actaully have a pretty good section on how to heat cycle your tires (I forget what the URL is, you're going to have to poke around on their website)

After you run some easy laps, slowly building speed until you're just about at the tire's limits then cool down the car and remove the wheels from the car for 24hrs so they aren't loaded when they are cooling.

Hope that helps.

Ya, I saw the Tire Rack's heat cycling service... good stuff... but the info I found there about heat cycling was more about the theory and effect rather than method.

Thing is, I'm asking for Advan A048, so can't take advantage of the Tire Rack's service.

What about these two schools of thought? Heat cycling in a straight line or through more abusive skidpad lapping?
