Default Another Gay LS VTEC build up

I know there are already tons of these threads, but figured I would contribute to it.

Block

LS block from Hmotors
Fresh hone from local machine shop
Shotpeened LS rods
Balanced rotating assembly
ARP rod bolts
P30's with new OEM rings
ACL bearings

Head

B16 head
Skunk2 Pro 2 cams
Skunk 2 Pro springs
Skunk 2 titanium retainers
Skunk 2 Pro cam gears

Miscellaneous

AEM intake
Tanabe exhaust
AEBS polished IM
Hondata IM gasket
P72 oil and water pump
GSR timing belt
GE LSVTEC conversion kit with HG
Hytech header
65mm TB
B&M FPR
RC 440's
Walbro 255lph fuel pump

Everything look ok?

Build was inspired by reading numerous threads here on HT and by this dyno graph. Very similar setup. http://forums.evans-tuning.com...=4559

Any comments/suggestions. This is going into a mint 93 del sol that is pretty much complete other than the motor. Hoping for a daily drivable car hitting low 13's..

Going in a 1993 S model sol .. should make a big difference over the D15Beast7

Definitely a B16 trans, but I am unsure if I should put in a MFactory 4.7 or 4.9 FD in for shitts and giggles. Not sure if it will be too short of a street powerband though. Not sure what to do with the trans yet.

The pro 2 cams are streetable. However, some people say the stage 2s idle a little bit better and there isn't much difference than stock till much higher in the RPM range. I have been running Blox b's/Skunk 2 Stage 2s and aside from idling a little rough when I first start it up when the motor is cold, there isn't much change, especially when the car is warmed up completely before I leave.

Word, thanks guys, just making sure it sounded ok?

But as far as trans goes, should I go B16, or ITR, or put a new FD in the B16?

Use the b16 if you already have it just upgrade it to a 4.7 fd, and if you have the funds put in the type r lsd since you'll already have the tranny apart when installing the fd. Upgrading your b16 will save you a few hundred dollars or more versus buying a used usdm/jdm type r tranny.

If this will be a daily driver, don't use the mfactory 4.9fd. We put one in my friends 94 si w/ stroked b20 vtec, 13.1:1 compression, toda C cams (need to upgrade).

On the highway at like 60 mph he's in 4k-5k rpms.

Mfactory products are great, but that 4.9fd is extremely short for daily driving.

Word. I do use the highway a lot too, so I guess I'll just have to live with the 4.7 lol.

Thanks for all of the advice though guys.

Pics to come soon! I'm getting stoked .. I love ordering stuff for the sol lol

Yeah dude, you are the first graph on his B-series page. Great graph... How's the car drive?

I read somewhere in the comments it's in the 12's

the car drives GREAT! could be daily driven no problem.

Best pass to date is 12.901@105.8 in october 07 with a best trap of 108.8mph.

traps higher on radials compared to the slicks.

I am looking foward to this spring since i have a 4.785 final up from the 4.4 in my itr trans. i belive it can go 12.70's with the new final drive. car weighs 2,550lb's with driver. big props to jeff evans, super cool guy, big help.

one thing my static compression will be a little higher than you. i run a p72 head cut .015 and block cut .008. good luck on build hit me up if you need some assistance.

With a B16A tranny, you will be doing 70mph @ 4200rpm in 5th Gear with a 4.928 FD, which isn't that high an rpm tbh.

Really! My b16 with type r final(4.7) is some where around 4800-5000 at 70 mph in 5th.

Exactly. So a 4.9 should be somewhere around 5200 in 5th at 70. Not 4200. Maybe mfactory made a typographical error in his above post.

No.. he was right.. Here's the link.
http://www.fatboyraceworks.com...are=1

With a Max RPM of 8500, tire size of 195/55/15, the 4.9 brings the top speed of 5th gear to 141.9 MPH, which is at 8500 RPM. Divide it by 2, get 70-ish MPH, at 4250 RPM. He was right ..

I think just because I do a lot of highway cruising, I might just get the 4.7FD. Here is a graph comparing the same motor/same trans, just different FD - between the 4.7 and the 4.928.

http://www.fatboyraceworks.com...are=1

Doesn't make too big of a difference until 4th and 5th IMHO.

Thanks for the input mFactory.

Are you sure you're cluster isn't broken or has been tampered with?

Even with 195/45/15's, at 5000rpm, you'd be doing 80mph already.

I would leave the stock 4.4. The b16 trans is great anyways, torque multiplication is important, but RPM drop from gear to gear is more important, which the b16 has. You would do better to invest your money in an OBX LSD.

I am not too knowledgeable when it comes to some of the OEM trans parts vs aftermarket ones.

Would the ITR OEM LSD be better than the OBX LSD? Maybe this seems ignorant, but I always thought OBX made cheap stuff for Hondas, like stuff you'd find at Pep Boys or something like that. Sorry if I am wrong, so someone correct me if that's so
