Default Bigger Tires in front then back

So my friend just bought new rims volk GT-U off my friend who owns an s2000 and its a staggered set up, so one pair is 235 or 245 and second pair is 215 so he put the bigger tires in back and smaller in front, wouldn't you just put the bigger tires in front since it is fwd not a rwd like the s2k would there be any problems, PROS & CONS to this, any opinions on that at all.??

Pictures of set ups like that would be nice thanks a lot guys!

GTU? What are you talking about?

Also if the car is front engine, front drive then staggered wheels/tires look fuucking retarded.

S2000s come from the factory with staggered wheels/offsets and different tires sizes front/rear.

As in the beretta GTU or whatever? im not sure i get what you mean, but the front tires should be the way they are... except.. get all of the tires the same size, sell the beretta, buy a honda.. and then come back and ask questions in a honda-tech forum...

If he wants to run a staggered setup, the wider tires should be on the front.

My first thought is GTU = RX7 GTU but the OP needs to clarify what exactly he's referring to.

I have 205/50R15 in front and 195/50R15 in back on my hatch right now but not by choice. Even such a small difference in tire size is visually noticeable and physically noticeable (rub).

ok sorry guys maybe i should of been more clear he bought volk GT-u's he doesnt really want to run a staggered set up he just bought the rims because he wanted them and he got a good price on them hope this makes more sense now.. so i suggested to run bigger tires in the front doesnt make sense to have fatty tires in the back if its not rear wheel drive right.??

i understood you the first time, maybe people should just read more. but its not a bad thing to run wider in the front. although, 245 in the front is hella wide.

specs are Volk GT-U front 215 with 43+ on 17 rear 43+ "he said" 17 235 . i thought it would be smarter to just mount fatter tires in front, and this is not a drag car so no drag radial its a DD hes running falken azines any more pictures guys im thinking on running 215 front with a 205 rear with chargespeed overfenders?? anyone doing that ... thanks a lot guys

Since the post was directly below mine, i assumed he was referring to me. This could have been avoided if people used the quote option

Nothing wrong with wider tires in front. I've seen plenty of Japanese tuners doing it on YouTube/Best Motoring videos. I think we as Americans aren't used to the idea, but it makes perfect sense if you think about it.

Yes, come ask the wheel and tire forum. Actually, first read the wheel and tire FAQ as it will clarify a lot of misconceptions you seem to have.

In short, don't do a staggered set up on your car. It is asking for trouble on the street or the auto-x. Strickly drag racing is a different story.

BTW:

The original post did not mention "rims" when he was referring to "GTU" so that's why all the confusion set in. That's why Beretta and RX-7 were tossed in here.

Anyways I stick to "bigger tires up front looks retarded" for STREET cars. In your first post honestly you didn't come across as someone who would be knowledgable enough to even know about auto-X, etc. Sorry for judging you based on one incoherent post, but that's what happens online.

As far as overfenders, flared fenders, Japanese "option" tuner type cars, etc. sure having more meat up front for a FF car isn't a bad idea I suppose, but then again that's not the original question that was asked.

If you could post some examples of "most" of the cars looking like this I'd like to see it, because when you replaied to me and said:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">are you serious dude most honda have that look that the front is wider in the front eg's accords etc.. so im confused by this ... </TD></TR></TABLE>

That means you really think that more than 50% of these cars have bigger wheels/tires/offset up front, which is not the case.

The front fenders are flared more, sure, but that's just because the front wheels need to not hit the fender despite having a wider range of motion than the rears (both go up and down but the fronts obviously can be turned). The idea of flaring the fenders more in the front versus rear is the same deal - you put wider wheels/tires on the car, you need to flare the front fenders more than the rear simply because the fronts have to deal with that larger range of motion.

Um. Though if you're saying stock EG tires look wider in the front versus rear despite being the same size, then no, I don't believe they do. And I own an EG, with stock size tires.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of what you're asking can be interpreted multiple ways. Either of the above could be an answer to your question but (hopefully) only one of them is the answer. Not trying to start a fight, just trying to explain why people are being all quizzical 'n ****.
