Default 1995 accord non vtec

I just picked up 1995 accord Lx from one of my customers. The motor was ran with no oil. Just this past weekend my friend who is a Toyota tech put a 4cyl vtec motor in my car for me. The motor came out of a 1995 accord with low miles. The question I have is the motor is cranking but wont start, does the ecu need to be changed? I have the ecu but I wont be able to pick it up until friday. Thanks you

yes, you need the accord ecu, if your car is a 92-95 it will plug right in.

thats not right.

its 90-93 or 94-95 or 96-97 (obd2)

also, im not sure if the ecu would matter, they are basically the same engine minus vtec but i could be wrong.

You do need the matching VTEC ECU, but it should still start, regaurdless. I know if you run a vtec motor with a non vtec ECU, you'll throw a CEL for the missing vtec solenoid, etc. I don't know though that you will throw a CEL for a non vtec ecu on a vtec engine until higher rpm's in gear?

Have you tried trouble shooting other variables, spark and fuel?

I was told the same thing that the car should run until it reaches a certain rpm then the engine will lose power. When I left his house on sunday we had fuel and spark.. The ecu should be at his house tonight.

the ECU is not an issue...you will throw a CEL but the car will be drivable. I would do things like check the grounds, main relay, battary, etc

^^ ECU is not the issue, a 95 non VTEC ECU will run a 95 VTEC engine. You won't have VTEC. Check for fire & fuel to begin with.

(Fire) Do you have spark? Check all of your ground wires as mentioned, make sure they have good solid connection with clean contacts. Main relay, ignition coil, Ignitor (ICM) and all wires associated with the distributor & ignition.

(Fuel) Does your fuel pump charge the fuel system when you turn the ignition to the II position?

like everyone said it's not the ecu...ghostaccord & cd5 jeebies made a point check for spark and fuel if you have one check the other...if you get spark and you here the fuel system power check your injectors (that's what had happened to before in crx where I would get spark and the fuel system would power but there was no fuel distributed to the motor so it wouldn't start)...gl man
