TRANNY ACTING UP HELP !!!!
Hey guys i ve done some searching and cant seem to find anything so heres my situation i just recently swapped a b18b1 with gsr tranny into my 1993 eg hatch and i was driving down the road and it seems everytime i hit 60-70 in 5th gear it wants to pop out and most of the times it will shoot out of fifth gear and im stuck there revving my motor like a tard so any one that has had this problem or knows what it is please help thankyou
check the shifter stabilizer bushing and mounting bolts first, as well as motor mounts, a shifting engine will cause it to pop out of gear too.
but like z6hatchboy said the synchro is a possibility although 5th synchro doesnt get much abuse.

thanks for the responses guys any other opinions i dont run any torque mounts im in the process of getting them so taht could be a possibility as for the bushings ill check that today do you think syncromesh will help?
You probally have a bad blocking ring, a synchro is what allows the gears to shift from gear to gear smoothly without binding and also acts as a gear selector but on each side of the synchros are little brass rings that make them lock into place and stay there if these are bad it would come out of gear during travel. if you had a bad synchro it would grind when going into gear or wouldnt go at all. and I think that I read something about a bushing. but bad motor\tranny mounts could cause the same thing or the linkage bushing but it would more than likely happen through every gear not just fifth gear.

I actually just bought a 95 hatch with a b18b1 in it (y80 trans) from a local car dealer on Friday. It drove fine, and then started having the same problem your car has. The transmission then blew....when I took the transmission out yesterday, I realized that there was no fluid in it at all!!!! I then tore the tranny apart and found out that 1st, 2nd, and 5th are all junk (and since the b18 transmissions are common with weak syncros, they aren't made to run without fluid). Your best bet is to fill it up with oil, and see if that helps the problem. If that doesn't help it (key word, only help not cure) they you will be looking into getting a new transmission.
p.s. (the dealership went out and bought me a (S80 trans), and a new, stage two clutch.

synchros x2 happened to me in with my d-series motor popped out in 3rd and 5th and i literally had to hold it in place with for for 5th and forget about 3rd, i had to skip it.... i replaced my transmission. if it's one synchro you might not need to do that, but the transmission places i checked out quoted me at 400 just to take it out and open it, not counting parts. lol.... you just need more fluid. if you had the correct amount fluid in there, find out why there is fluid loss. people who say synchromesh work wasn't really because of the synchromesh it was simple because they added more fluid.

while that is somewhat correct its not totally. the problem with grinding gears is synchros wearing, not having enough oil in the trans isnt the problem, its the wear thats already happened. the addition of the oil just helps mask the problem, and using synchromesh, honda MTF, or whatever else just covers the underlying problem. but who cares, if it doesnt grind, why worry about it.

no i meant for those who claim sycromesh worked for those who 5th gear pops out not those who grind. i believe it was the simple fact that they used more fluid than they had there originally with that problem.
