Hey I just bought a '94 Gs-R b18c1 but I was told it was a type-R, I looked up the block code b18c1 and it's a Gs-r , Type-R is supposed to be B18C5 am I right?? is there any difference between them two??? Should I use the '94 GS-R with the Stock tranny or rather put on my '93 Gs-R Cable tranny wit Hydro Conv. with it?? I like to Boost the '94 GS-R but is it safe to do so with stock pistons??? or should I rebuild with low comp. pistons. it's only for street use so I may just boost no more than 7psi.
wow that's a bunch of questions
b18c1 is gsr
usdm type r is b18c5
jdm type r is b18c
uk type r b18c6
differences are cylinder head, internals, compression
keep your gsr cable tranny, no need for the hydro conversion if you're putting this in a 2nd gen (90-93 teg)
boost is safe as long as tuning is done properly
rebuild w/ low comp pistons is nice too if you have the money and downtime

GS-R B18C1 makes 170 crank hp.
Type-R B18C5 makes 195 crank hp.
Stick with the tranny that's on your C1.
Yes you can boost on the stock pistons. Make sure the engine is healthy - do a compression/leak down test.
