Default H23a1 Problem.....and just wondering about swaps??

Hi, I have a 92 Prelude H23a1 w/ an auto trans. and about a week ago it started knocking really bad....So I was hoping to get some info about swaps.
I'm trying to save as much as I can..but I was wondering what my options were.
I was told about a f20A or af22B, but what would need to changed?? and would it fit the h23a1 tranny? does an H22 fit my tranny also?? Or what about an H23A3? I was wodering if someone can give some info or a link w/ answers. Thanks
-shawn

P.S. I'll post some pics tomorrow ...or give the link..thanks

Well, all F and H-series transmissions are interchangable because the blocks are very close to the same (except for the F20 and F22 from the S2000, those are very different). An H22 tranny will be fine.

A JDM F22B is basically an H23 replacement, almost all of the parts are interchangable and it shares the same head as the H23A (DOHC nonVTEC). Same with the H23A3, it's the same engine with only a different valve cover (I think that's all).

So an F22B is a direct bolt-on to the H23 Non-Vtec?? What about the wiring harness, ecu, and tranny?? is it a bolt on too??

an F20A is also a direct replacement for the h23...

i used to have the f20a...its alright for a short term replacement....does'nt feel as nice as the h23 but it'll do if you don't have the doe for an h22 replacement....

jdmtigerjapanese.com has the canadian h22a for 750 and bout 130 for shipping....its great....just that the customer service sucks..they'll most likely have it shipped to a wrong address and tell you that another person had the same order.....then they don't care bout getting it to you....

do what you can afford.....

Just to correct myself on the F22B head, Pirate sent me an IM about the slight differences on a couple oil returns on the timing belt side:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
The (F22B) head is a different casting that has different oil retuns castings on the timing belt side. If you put an F22B head on an H-series block you will get a large gasket mismatch and you'll have a large oil leak. It's easier to put the H23 head on the F-series blocks. But it's harder the other way 'round.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

So ther you have it, thanks Pirate.
