Default 94 Acura, no oil on dipstick, oil light.

Hello, my 94 Acura hardly ever has oil that shows on the dipstick.
I can take it out with some oil on it, wipe it off put it back in on my flat parking surface and nothings on it.
I Can drive it, it starts up fine, and their is no oil light.
Once in a while the oil light comes on I can turn the car off and on and it goes away for a while.
I can add oil and start the car again and its fine for a while.
I hardly ever notice blue smoke coming out the exhaust but ive seen it before.
My coolant levels are fine.
I have yet to do a compression test for the piston rings.
It seemed ever since i did the last oil change because it was at 3k miles that after 1k miles of doing that oil change is when the light came on.
I wonder if i added too much oil and it messed something up.
IDK, i also got it from original owner and probably ran it much harder.
150k+ miles on the car.
Nothing else is wrong with it and lately gas mileage seems to have gone down yeah.
Also since the oil just burns away i have not replaced the oil filter in some time. Which im sure i will be suggested to do.

Why do you run your mouth so much. You have to post in 1/2 of all threads. You know everything, huh?

I got lost by the second line, use a period once and while. When you type in a Forum you can't seperate your sentenced by hitting the enter key. When it posts it will just run it as one string

And why don't you change the filter when you Change your Oil?

...hum if you noticed before that blue smoke came out, then do a compression test ASAP.

You checked if you aren't leaking oil anywhere...like oil gasket???

Over rev'ed??

Did you change oil type???

I wouldn't drive the car till properly check.

Luck

You should check your oil frequently enough to make sure it is always between the two marks on the dipstock. If it is below that point, it can damage or destroy your engine. When you check it, you should fill it to the top mark so that it is still between the two marks if it is using oil.

The oil light is based on oil pressure. It is not a "low oil level warning light". If the oil light goes on, your engine may already be trashed. That's what it sounds like.

Did you REALLY check the oil level, find that it was low, and not put in more oil to fill it up?

i had the car, did an oil change when i first got it, went 3.2k miles or so, i did an oil change myself. 1000 or so miles later the oil pressure light came on i checked the oil it was low.. alrdy? weird.. added more oil.. always checked it everyday was always low again.. so no the motor is fine.. runs great.. i run the **** out of it still 7k rpms.. now wether i shudnt or not.. lol.. but as far as fixing the problem..

yes i add oil.. i can add a **** load of oil and it still doesnt seem to show on the dipstick.. i emptied the oil pan with nothing showing on the stick and a ton of oil comes out..

another question, on the pistons why do they make the holes that are covered by the piston rings? what is the purpose?

now the piston rings being bad would cause the oil to be burned that much, and im guessing with not much oil going thru because its being burned or whatever the light would come on

It's possible it is consuming oil. It's also possible that there is a leak somewhere. You can look at the pavement under the car after it's parked for a while. You can also put the car up on a lift to look for leaks.

Is it possible that the previous owner somehow put the wrong dipstick in the car? If you know someone in your area with the same car, swapping dipsticks is an easy way to rule that out.

A lot of the VTEC cars consume a lot of oil when they're run up in the VTEC range (you can even see them blowing smoke if you're following them), much more than when they're below the VTEC crossover.

yeah i would agree with the rest of these guys. 1, change your oil filter with oil changes. and 2, start using periods, commas, and stuff. and 3, if you notice blue smoke, wouldn't that lead you to believe that its burning oil? i don't know, thats just my opinion. maybe its leaking?

last time i drained it there was alot of oil, and the dipstick didnt show anything.
Was on a flat surface (im positive, the car didnt move in neutral with the e-brake down. I will try a different dipstick, for certain is no leak that i can see , their is oil in the head so its not clogged im sure its being burnt up. and as far the motor it still runs strong so i will try the compression test for the piston rings and put that up sometime in the next day or so

well, since you say when you drain the oil there's a good bit, maybe the previous owner put the wrong dip stick in the tube. maybe the one in there is too short, and when you over fill it, it causes your car to smoke. not sure. but i would check out a different dip stick.
