Default Lots of problems in a hand me down car. -Ford contour-

First of all, it is a ford contour... but the ford forums aren't active. I'm looking for answers, not diy's so some of you guys should be able to point me into the right direction. It's and automatic 2000 ford contour which has so many problems. I have guesses on what the problems are, but I'm looking for any other possibilities.

1. First off, when the gas gauge reaches halfway, the engine doesn't get gas anymore. I know theres still gas in the car though. It will just die out on me or just won't start. I'm thinking I need a new gas tank.

2. Next is when I'm driving and I punch the gas, the car down shifts and revs high but doesn't accelerate. I think I need a new torque converter???

3. The brake has about 1 inch of free play, and when I press it down all the way, it doesn't stop like its supposed to.

and what would happen if the car was running on a stock intake with no filter?

There are some more problems but I cant think of it yet. Thanks

dude first of all you need to ask a local mechanic these questions! and if they dont help you then find a kinder mechanic to ask. Here is why i say these things:

1.) the ford forums are empty because no one cares
2.) the honda forum is full, FULL, no room for other cars
3.) I think that your should scrap this car, find a broken honda, then come back and ask your questions.
4.) New gas tank? hahahahahahahahahaah, no new car
5.) New tranny (ford trannies die in 8 years or less! truth!)
6.) get a filter or get a new motor!

driving the car with no filter can cause dirt and rocks to get sucked into your engine, which can cause big damage to valves and premature wear on other components.

Id check you have adequate levels of brake fluid as well.

I don't have to go to my local mechanic and ask them this question because I'm not a person to go to a mechanic since I'm one to do my own work and ask for guidance when I get stuck. I bet your mechanic gets most of his money from you.

If I would have lied and said that this was a honda civic with the same problems you wouldn't have known I was lying, and your response would've been totally different. I wasn't asking a honda specific question, I was asking what the possible problems would be. Why scrap a car that still runs? and use even more money to buy another broken car... new tranny? the tranny isn't even expletiveed up, your stupid. its the torque converter, if not the torque converter i know for sure its not the tranny. The car has a filter on it, but my sister took it to a dumbass "mechanic" that didn't clamp it back on so it popped back open.

I a bet a mechanic has enough common sense to know not to post something like this in the TOTALLY wrong forum. HT never amazes me that is for sure.
