I was told that a itr tranny is identical to a b16 tranny. A buddy of mine has a b20 with b16 tranny, going 60 mph his rpm is 3400-3500.

My 00 itr tranny is around 3100-3200 going 60 mph.

Why is that so? Would of be stupid of me to take the lsd out of my itr tranny, put it in a b16 tranny and swap the tranny off?

Someone confirm that this is a stupid idea so i won't do it.

As far as the ratios are concerned, they have the same 1/2/3 - IIRC 4 is longer on the ITR trans and 5th/final are shorter on the ITR.

That sounds confusing...

Here:

1st: B16 = ITR
2nd: B16 = ITR
3rd: B16 = ITR
4th: B16 &gt; ITR
5th: B16 &lt; ITR
Final: B16 &lt; ITR

Where "Greater than" is the equivalence of "shorter"

IIRC that's how it works.

As for whether it'll fit (the LSD) - I don't think it would - but I'm not sure.

 

Actually, there are two different ITR transmissions.There is the 1G JDM transmission, which is the same as the USDM ITR transmission. And then there is the 2G JDM ITR transmission. Gearing in the 1G JDM transmission (and USDM transmission) is IDENTICAL to the B16A transmission in ALL respects. But the 2G JDM transmission is somewhat different. It has a 4.785 final drive vs a 4.4 final drive. But the first three gears are the same as the 1G transmission. However, fourth and fifth are different. For instance, fifth gear on a 1G ITR/B16A transmission is .848:1, while fifth gear on the 2G ITR transmission is .787:1. This is done so that freeway RPMs don't increase with the shorter final drive.

As for different cars showing different revs for a given speed, remember that there are several variables here. For instance, overall wheel diameters are probably at least somewhat different between the two cars. Also, neither speedometers nor tachs can be considered to be anywhere close to 100% accurate. So a difference of a few hundred RPM is to be expected, even if gearing is identical.

As for swapping the LSD to a B16A transmission, why would you want to to this? Not only would you not gain anything as far as gearing. But you would also lose the dual cone synchros which the ITR transmission has, but the B16A transmission doesn't.

 

Keep the ITR transmission, you would be stupid not to. Also the FD on the ITR is 4.4 as well, I believe this is on USDM ITR's, only the JDM ITR's came with the 4.78 FD, and that might have been with the 98 spec, but I am not 100% positive.

5 seconds in the FAQ section, if you do autofill it will show you the gear ratios, what speed you will be at, select tire size and all that good stuff and it will tell you what you need to know.

 

To be even more exact, 1G ITR is 94-97, 2G ITR is 98-01. All USDM years came with a 4.4 final drive. As for looking at the transmission, the code "4JHD" means 4.4 final drive, while "NE3" signifies 4.785 final drive.

That, and to make an ITR LSD fit into a B16 transmission, there's some work in volved. I don't remember how much, though.

So yes, it's a stupid idea.
