Default 94 gsr all motor ... i need suggestions or opinions

i got a 94 gsr that just failed a compression test... compreletely stock motor as of now. i want it to be a fast DD...... the - beside the lists is what ive bought already

this is some of what ive bought -

-supertech ss flat faced valves std. size .... new valve job
-type r valvesprings/retainers and lost motions.......

what cams should i use? im thinkin some older skunk 2 stage 2's or the crower 63401-2 little better than type r's

-acl rod/main/thrush kit
-eagle rods

pistons im going with supertech or srp?..... i want 12 to 1 compression ratio std bore depending on what the cylinders look like ... if nt 81.50 will do

-skunk2 intake manifold with 68mm throttle body

hondata s100 or apexi vafc rev limit at 8900 rpm and

vtec at 4800...or 5000 ? opionions?

stock fuel system ... should i upgrade? i got some 310cc injectors should i run those? do i need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

-b16 hydro trans with lsd
-traction bars
-14" wheels and tires

BFG street drag radials or falken A-615???

??????????? any suggestions that would work better??????????

if you got R springs and ret you can use R cams... you want a little better than type R then upgrade

440s are not needed on mild all motor set ups like that. His 310s should work fine. I am running 440s as well but not at a very high duty cycle at all. I see no reason to buy new ones if he doesn't need to. Also, as for cams, S2S2s are good. as are Blox b's. It looks like you already have the valve train set up for cams correct? As for the rest of the build, what are your goals in terms of whp? Also, you said you want the car to be a fast daily driver....Will it ever see the track? For your vtec setting, let whoever tunes it on the dyno set vtec to the best engagement point for whatever cams. 4-5k rpm is way, way too low to have it engage there. I believe mine is somewhere around 6k with my Blox b's. For some reason it is a popular belief with some people that a lower vtec engagement means more power, and more power earlier in the powerband. It doesn't work like that though. Plus, just imagine cruising on interstate 5 or somewhere with a 70 mph speed limit. If you are going 75-80 mph at just over 4k rpm, you will be in vtec all the time. Hpw good do you think that will be for the motor? Anyway, I hope that helps, Check out some of the dyno posts where people have their set ups and whp #s. That should give you a really clear indication of the parts you need for the power you want to make...

will my type r valvesprings and retainers hold the sks2 tuner cams? or the blox b's?

thats true about the 440s... and thats some good advice you got from gsrob.. let the guy who tunes the car find the vtec engagement setting.

no.

You need to research the parts you want and FIND OUT what they require to support them and WHY. Do you know why you want 12:1 compression? if so please explain. Why do you want to use non OEM pistons and rods?

Research isn't simply asking questions... because you're only going to get answers you won't fully understand, how will you learn anything that way? You have to do some digging (searching) on your own to get some sort of knowledge base built up and an idea of the direction you want to move in. Then you can ask questions about things you don't understand and have some idea about how to interpret the answers you get. How will you know the difference between good or bad advice or opinions?

Why? Many, many cars here report very good results with stock rods and OEM pistons.

Oh yeah, heres a B-series spring test thread

Complete ignorance...

This is the reason behind your close minded opinion on stock rods/pistons. OEM rods and pistons are MORE then capable of supporting the levels of power you are seeking. Upgrading them would be nothing more then a waste of both your time and your money. Stock rods can even handle boost pretty damn well. The pistons however are VERY sensative to detonation and tend to crack ring lands pretty easily. This is more of a tuning issue then it is a faut of the component.

The amount of lift they can handle isn't the issue here. Its the level of RPM you will be turning. Stock springs will "handle" the lift just fine, they simply cannot carry the RPM that is needed to extract power from the larger cams. You should be looking into something OTHER then R springs for the cams you have in mind. Look to Omni or Rocket for springs and retainers. Very good products that will be able to handle the stress you have in mind and then some. Leave the LMA's alone. Nothing wrong with the stock LMA's.

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

Best bet for OEM pieces there. If you need the JDM R parts, search ebay. I personally would reccomend using OEM rings as well.
