Default A/C gurus! Need your opinion/help!

Straight to the point...

1994 Honda Accord EX 4-Door (COMPLETELY STOCK)

My A/C hasn't been working for nearly a year because the compressor blew out. About a week ago, I replaced the compressor and while recharging the system, I was told that my expansion valve needed to be replaced or the compressor would eventually go out again.

He recharged it anyway but not fully. For 2 weeks after the install and recharge, I never used the A/C fearing that the expansion valve would cause damage to the compressor again.

This morning I had the expansion valve replaced and the system recharged yet once again. After turning it on, there was some smoke (very light) coming from the radiator area which I may believe it to be the condenser, so please correct me if I'm referring to the wrong part.

Anyway, after about 20 minutes of driving w/ the A/C on, the smoke went away. But still, my fans do not turn on.

I don't know if all this had to do anything w/ the heavy SOCAL rains we got last night. I do know I went through a few deep/flooded areas so if that info helps any at all, then I'd appreciate some type of feedback. LOL..

So here's the problem:

AC fan & radiator fan will not turn on when the A/C is turned on.

I checked all fuses under the dash AND under the hood.

I tested the fans out by getting power directly from the battery and the fan turns on.

The car DOES-NOT overheat and runs at regular operating temperatures and gauge does not fluctuate at all. But even if I leave the car running for 10-15 min, the fan still does not turn on.

Everything other than the fan not turning on works fine.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong? Thanks in advance.

BTW, I"m no electrician, but does the A/C have a relay for the fan to kick on? And if so, is it the one attached/next to the fan? Thanks once again.

If the radiator fans do not turn on the condersor over heats and the pressure goes high. That can cause the saftey valve on the compressor to blow out, but doesn't always ruin the compressor.
Here's a link for the fan schematic, the relays are in the underhood fuse box, you should feel them click when the A/C is turned on

Thanks for the info Hondadude.. I appreciate it.

Update:

I went to a local junk yard earlier to get 2 relays. The relays I'm referring to are the two located on the side of the A/C condenser fan closest to the A/C compressor. I changed them both out after confirming that they were good relays to even begin with. Still, when I turned on the A/C, I hear clicks but the fan still does not want to turn on.

I straight wired BOTH fans (not at the same time) to the battery and both seem to function properly if power is given to it.

I've checked the fuse underneath the drivers side kick panel which is something that has to do w/ A/C clutch switch, heater bower, etc.. That fuse is a 7.5 amp and is perfectly intact.

I also examined the 15amp fuse under the "under the hood fuse box", cooling fan fuse, as well as the cooling fan relay and ALL 3 are in working conditions with no signs of burning out, etc.

Periodically with the car turned on and the A/C on, I can hear the compressor kick in every 15 sec or so but the temperature INSIDE the cabin remains cool as should be. I hear clicking from the cooling fan as well as the condenser fan but neither turn on.

This is really beginning to worry me. My cooling fan doesn't even turn on. Thank God the weather is cold so there's no sign of overheating....yet. Ever after driving in some stop-and-go traffic.

If there's anyone who can give me more insight on my problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Found the problem. It was my Fan Control Module located behind the glove box about the size of a 3" square black box with a plug in it for future reference of those who may question why neither fan turns on.

if your previous compressor failed and came apart internally you should replace the h-block as suggested and also the receiver dryer. then reseal system with new o-rings and hold on a vaccum for 4 hours to see if the system can hold a vaccum and then recarge.
