Accord 97 Problems
Hi, I recently purchased a 1997 Honda Accord and I am having a few problems with it. It needs some work but the two thinks I want to work on first are the power windows and the locks.
1) Both front windows are very slow to move. I guess this means the motors are worn out? It takes quit awhile to roll up the windows. What would I need to buy to correct this problem and would installing the equipment be difficult?
2) My Accord came with a factory alarm system. I don't know if that matters but when I lock my car it continues to lock repeatedly for some time. Or I will just be driving and the doors will start locking. Is this a common problem?
I really appreciate any help/advice given.
Thanks
Aaron

Ummmm 5th gens like your Accord have slow windows. You can always grease the inside tracks and clean the window tracks. But it's common. I think most 5th gen if not all have this problem.
I am not familiar with the alarm. You might try the alarm forum in HT.

I have a similar problem on slow windows on my 96 accord ex 4 drs 6 cyls.
I try buying silicone grease from Autozone. Guess what, they don't carry them. I bought something similar and boy, was I sorry. I made it worse. May be someone can suggest where this product can be purchased. It is not as common as you think.
Anyway, I even bought a window regulator (motor) for the driver side (wife can't stand it anymore). I took the side panel off and ready to tackle it. Then, I decided to try cleaning the window track and use WD-40. Well, the damn thing improved to an acceptable level (actually pretty good). So, I did the same to all 4 door tracks.
So, clean the tracks (be careful not to pucture the rubber, I use hand cleaner, screw driver and a ripped T-shirt), then use WD-40 with the thin plaster jet. Spray it generously to the top of the track. Let the fluid flow though the entire track. Use something underneath the door to catch the extra fluid. See if it would help before you go replacing window regulator(s).
