liberty gear cuff install
Im not a master at honda transmissions but i have replaced synchros and taken my stacks apart to do so and all of that. I got my gear cuff and it has 2 shims. Where do they go? Also, the big bearing that goes on the countershaft side doesnt seem to be pressed in all the way, a good 1/4 inch of it is sticking out and its not seated against the cuff in the bottom side of it. I have searched and there isn't any info on this.
yeah the shims go under the countershaft bearing i figured that part out, and yes the counter shaft bearing does slide freely, but the mainshaft bearing looks like its half way pressed.
The main shaft bearing is fairly loose. If you put enough pressure on it, it will go down. When I got mine, I was able to move that bearing up and down with my fingers with little effort....you shouldn't need a press.
mine wont move, i guess its jammed, it looks a little crooked.
edit: i got it unjammed. I think all is well now.
shims go under the countershaft bearing, pretty much as they came packaged.

when i ordered mine i asked the same question. it took a while to get a hold of them but they told me to install it just how you recieved it with a shim on each side, just like it was ziptied...

yeah but the shims are not one on each side, they are both on the "bottom" side of the cuff bearing...others have told me to put both bearings on the bottom.

Both shims go on the bottom of the countershaft bearing. With both shims on the bottom, it places that bearing .050-.060" higher than the cuff...so when you put the tranny cover on and flip the tranny over for the C-clip to catch the countershaft bearing, the cuff will sit center of the cuff bearing.
If that made any sense?

yeah it makes enough sense lol. ive never flipped the tranny to make the c clip latch on to the counter shaft bearing, i guess that might make it a little easier? I always hate releasing the countershaft from the c clip, THAT **** IS A PAIN SOMETIMES.

I've always just made sure the input shaft if off the table and the countershaft just drops right out, (I use big snap ring pliers)
