Default Speedometer 5 MPH off - What in the world is causing this

hey - anyone can tell me why the speedo would be off 5 MPH on the high side ... the LS was an auto and i made it into a manual.

Ever since then the speedo/milleage is off by 5 MPH.

The tranny speed sensor is exactly the same - the dealer confirmed this. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Did you put larger/smaller rims and or shorter/taller tires on it also..?

yes - but the difference should not be 5MPH

i have 205/16/45's right now.

the difference should be 1mph - tops

I don't think that's what it is - i calculated the overall diameter of the wheel pretty accurate with an calculator

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

195-55-15 vs. 205-45-16
gives a 0.8% difference - instead of 60mph - it reads 59.5 mph.

Not even close to 5MPH difference.

Were the gauges and/ or needles recently removed?

When I swapped an OBD I jdm gsr b18c1 w/ 5spd tranny into my '95 LS auto, I thought my speedo was off also. Never really confirmed it though.
I'm using a jdm P72 ecu and stock LS steelies w/ 195/60 R14s.
My gauge cluster is still the LS auto one.

What OBD is your teg? Are you using the auto gauge cluster?

yes - the cluster is still the auto cluster - nothing's been changed on that.

I'm running an ODB I instead of ODBII - it was installed at the same time with the auto/manual conversion.

What instrumentation or method are you using to find your difference of reported vs actual speed? At what indicated speed are you noticing the difference?

Just for reference, my completely stock (stock engine, transmission, wheels, tires) 97 LS reads about 3-5 mph difference on those street radar signs that report your speed.

Lastly, does it matter if the speedo is 5 off? If it reads 5 mph over your current speed, just drive with the flow of traffic, or 5 mph over the posted limit according to your speedometer.

I'm actually comparing the speedometer reading on mine with cars going along side - you know those civics with digital speedos - easily readable from a different car next to them.

I've done several tests - including being on the phone with folks on the highway.

I did this because i was noticing a difference in the speedo reading while driving it without even getting an outside measurement - it just felt different ... and then i got it confirmed by doing these tests.

It's not really that i'm afraid i'm not going as fast as the speedo says i am - it's the fact that the miles are off by 10% also.

Both the total odometer reading and the manual one.

yes, rim and tire size affects the speedo , like my old toyota truck it had 35'' tires with 15'' rims and the speedo was wayyy off, my integra has tires that are a lil fatter than normal and my speedo is about 5-6 mph off
