Hey My Civic Tops out at 100mph, what can i do to change that? I Have a cold Air Intake & Headers. Lately I've been hearing about some thing that is put into the cars to make the car not pass a certain speed by the manufactures is that true?? If so how can i have that removed? Please help.

Well the CX wasn't made to be fast. Also, I'm not sure about the 100MPH governer (which is what the speed limiter is called most of the time), but if you want to change that you have to get your ECU chipped. Like I said I'm not 100% sure if there is a speed governer on OBD II Hondas (it would make sense) but if there is that is the only way to get rid of it.

Start by taking the extra header(s) off.

There is NO reason for you to go that fast
You arent trapping that at the track with a d15. Youre speeding on the highway.

Slow the hell down kid. You are endangering other people and yourself.
You have almost no control of the car at that speed. The only thing keeping you in a straight line is inertia.

He could be doing autocross or time attack. Probally not but he could be. Who are we to tell him to slow down? Thats how natural selection works.

Theres no way he's getting 100mph on ANY track w/ a d15 and headerS.
Asking about this, checking a cel (another thread) and mentioning headerS (numerous times) kinda says he's a foolish kid who is speeding excessively.

Id be fine with natural selection if it wasnt on public streets...

i dont care anymore...removing this thread from my watched topics

n *****!

Whatever, let him wreck himself. Its not on our hands. N i've topped out my car on the highway too! So what, its a DX. It was fun and I would do it again.

But to the OP's question. Yes you will need to have the ecu chipped to remove the speed gov. but in your case, there really is no reason to.....

1. You do realize going at those speeds can wipe out a whole family.

19-year-old in Novato, CA (North Bay area) driving an automatic '98 Civic CX hatchback 100mph.

A D16Y7 with a header and a check engine light.

So yes, this has to be on the highway and it is dangerous to more people besides himself.

I don't know if his car has a governor of if it just runs out of power. Either way, he needs to slow the hell down and act a bit more mature before he:

- kills himself.
- kills his passenger(s)
- kills a pedestrian
- kills another driver
- kills the kids of the other driver
- kills his car
- gets his license revoked
- gets a **** ton of tickets
- gets thrown in jail
- makes his family upset with him
- makes his family ashamed of him
- has to go to therapy because of what he did to someone else
- has to go to physical therapy because of what he did to himself
- etc. and so forth

If you dont like it dont post and just pass on this thread. U people all cry about this! Just leave it alone. DO u really think yapping about it will make the person stop?! I doubt it!

Threads like this get started all the time, and everyone gets their panties in a bunch ^^^^.

If your not going to inform the person on how to achieve what they want, go home.

1. Your car is first of all a POS
2. It also does not make any power
3. Your CAI and Header, give you maybe 5more HP.. MAX
4. It's Header not Headers
5. It's a speed limiter you are talking about
6. You can get your ecu chipped to get it removed.. or you can search
7. You shouldn't be going 100mph, in your "refer to no 1"
8. You have an auto car - stop doing any modifications
9. Your a ricer
10. Spoliers do not add HP
11. You Suck at Life

When I had my D16y7 in my 00 Civic CX it topped put @ 120 mph.
That's about where you should be at cause you have the same motor.

As far as handling @ 120 mph, I strongly disagree about the handling thing. I could drive my car @ 120 mph all day as if I was sitting on the couch watching TV. It's really no big deal, but don't be stupid that's all. Of course lowering your car on some stiffer suspension would help greatly.

Would everyone still trip out if the car was a Ferrari with a rich guy in it going over 100 mph? Probably not. Just use commen sense

Also your ECU cannot be chipped, you will have to convert to an OBD 1 ECU to chip it. Then you will be able to remove the speed limiters control.

There is no reason for you to go over 100mph unless you're doing it on the 1/4 mile...which you're obviously not
