Default 98 accord ignintion switch

Ok I usally hang around in the civic fourm but I have a buddy that has an accord. It is a 98 accord LX auto tranny. The problem is that the ignition switch. The little metal bar that goes into the white "igniton" pice broke off. Now when you turn the key it just turns really easy and never grabs anything. My question is where can I find some info on changing out the whole switch with a new key and everything. I found the switch on ebay but i need to know how to do it. Do I need to take off the sterring wheel?? Just looking for some info before I dive into this project. any help will be great thanx.

I believe the only thing you would need to replace is the switch itself. (The lock cylinder is separate from the switch.) Although, I'm not completely sure.

To change the switch, you would need to remove the upper and lower steering column covers, and just remove the two (I think two) screws holding the switch in place. Make sure it's in the "Lock" position while doing this.

I agree with philadd, but make sure to closely inspect the actual lock mechanism where it fits with the electrical switch to make sure that there is nothing broken there. You should be able to test things before putting the covers back on to make sure everything is working properly.

the white electric switch is fine the rod in the switch is broke off it does not push into the white piece. it cranks now but you have to have the key in and moved all the way forward then turn the white electric switch manualy. but i was calling around some places and they said that I will have to get the new switch and key then I will have to take it to honda and get them to reset the ecu to the new key because on the 98 it has an anti theft device can somone clarify this up thank you.

I have good news and bad news the good news is I am gonna fix it. The bad news is that I am going to have to take off the sher bolts that wrap around the steering coloum. also once I get the new ignition switch in I will have to take it to the dealer to get the ecu flashed to match the new key will not work if this is not done. So in short DO NOT BREAK OFF THE ROD THAT GOES INTO THE "WHITE IGNITION" SWITCH IT COST ALOT lol thank all of u for ur help.

how i feel
