What's up guys,
I've got a 96 DX in my garage that has an oil consumption problem. I changed the oil in it 4000 miles ago. The owner checked her oil 2000 miles after and everything was fine. Last week, she's driving and her oil and CEL lights come on. She shuts it off and tows it to the nearest lube-n-tune joint. She said that barely any oil came out.
So I checked it out, there's no leaking anywhere on the outside. She has to be burning it becasue her spark plugs have build-up on the plug but not the electrode, her exhaust has a layer of soot inside the pipe, and I can see fresh oil leaking into her intake manifold through a hole at the bottom. I'm guessing that it's the PCV valve. My question is: Is it just the PCV valve, or is there more to the cause. 3.5 quarts of oil in 2000 miles is a lot for a car that has run fine up until now.
I did a compression check, and everything checked out better than normal. Her engine has quite a few miles, but I don't think it needs a rebuild.
What do you guys think?
