Default Alright... So I've read ALLLL about headers... but now what?

Well, recently my OEM exhaust manifold cracked (almost all the way around the pipes for cylinder 1 and 2), but luckily my pops knows a welder/mechanic and he welded the crack up real nice and built it up. I KNOW I KNOW, I won't be using this for long. It's just a temp fix til I can get a header or new manifold.

Here's my dilemma: I've researched a bit about headers (Megan, DC, Mugen, tri-y, etc). I've read all about them, and I'm not looking for something that is gonna give me 'awesome performance'. I just want a decent-priced, reliable header to replace my stock cracked crap on my daily driven GSR. I DO NOT RACE -- so please, spare me and do not tell me to go and buy a highend expensive header...

so what do you think for a reliable daily driver header?

thanks

if it were me i'd go for a JDM 98 spec header and cat or the HYtech replica..to be budget conscious i'd say a DC header or a used USDM ITR header and cat...

The reason I said DC header is because you want something thats decently priced plus its a lot more dependable compared to Megan, OBX, etc.

Edelbrock's new header not only makes more power than the DC, it's fitment is rumored as good or better. It's also the same price. In all honesty since i am installing the Edelbrock piece myself, i would be more than happy to sell you my stock GSR manifold. shoot me an email at c5in2004@aol.com, like $50 plus shipping would work. My new header is supose to ship on jan-11 from Nevada, i should have it on a few days later. BTW are there any differences between the 97 and 00 manifolds?

I was also wondering what the deal was with fitment on the majority of these things... Will they just bolt on or no? I've read for a lot of them that they'll require modification to fit my 00 GSR because of a larger collector or some crap? I don't really feel like dealing w/ this at the moment... I just wanna get this crap in and drive my car and not worry.

idrivesideways, I'd be interested in your manifold if you can get it to me for pretty cheap...

also, where'd you get your edelbrock header from?

I wouldn't go with the Megan racing products. I've installed some and they're just crap. Not worth 140 IMO.

Summit racing at 800-230-3030, they will price match and i found a Chevy dealer that had the Acura header for $297, i paid 307 shipped. Summit is a wonderful outfit to buy from by the way. Here's the web site that has them for $297 http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com you have to fish around to get the price list. go to edelbrock on the left side of the page when you scroll down, then price list, then exhaust and look down the list. Give this to the guys at summit and you can have your header for $297 and only pay summit's $10 shipping charge. I'm not sure what shipping would run to send my manifold to you. Probably $30 for ups ground or USPS..rough guess anyway.

That's not a half bad idea if you can find one around the $150 mark. The only reason i mentioned my prefrence on the Edelbrock is that the cost was the same new.

if you can figure out how much it'll be to ship that manifold to me plus whatever you want for it... that'd be great lol

i can, my problem is that my header won't be here till the middle of the month. How soon do you need this? If you can wait a couple weeks it would work. If your in a pinch, gotta do what ya gotta do. A used DC or new Edelbrock if you want to spend more might not be bad ideas.

my wife's civic has a megan header, and its 4 years old now. my 90 ls has one and its going on 2 years. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by UmbraDc2K &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I wouldn't go with the Megan racing products. Why not just get OEM replacements...? As far as pricing goes Megen is the cheapest.

What about the "flea-bay" headers for like $50. Anybody had any experience? I know you can't ask for much for $50, but for someone that isn't going to be racing...

What quality does $50 buy you?

It's at sallee, worst case call them, also summit racing has it. you just want them to price match sallee. okay, when you get to the front page at sallee or http://gilbertautoparts.com/st...98276 scroll down on the left till you see edelbrock, click it, then click price sheet in the middle of the new page, it should bring up a page called glibert chevrolet price sheets. now click the exhaust link and scroll down till you see the acura header and that part number. I'll see if i can look up some of the other stuff i read in a minute. It does not come up if you search for it.

http://www.directtuning.com/st....aspx one more place selling it, this is normally what the web prices hover around. the sallee/gilbert prices are rock bottom, get summit to match and you'll have the best price i could find. the summit play is obviously just to save shipping.
