Default B20 suggestions....

I am buying a B20, and getting a B16 head. The thing I am wondering is should I do anything to the bottomend or leave it stock. I don't have gobs of money lol so I gotta be realistic with myself. Its a project car but hopefully when I am done it will be a dd!

I was wandering.....would I have to get the cylinder walls bored for B16 pistons or would yall use different pistons or just keep the stock to save money. I hear people saying stuff about piston clearance issues and stuff like that. My buddy said if I keep the stock pistons I would lose a lot of power. Help me out fellas this is gonna be my first REAL build. My other cars have just been bolt-on items and body work.lol

B20 has an 85mm bore,all the other b-series have 81mm.

IMO the only thing the bottom end needs is different rod bolts, arp makes a good set.

I would bore and hone to 84.5 mm and replace with rs machine pistons.
Also, I would replace the oil and water pumps with new 98+ spec b16a equipment and get a gsr timing belt.

Almost forgot, replace the bearings with ACL tri-metal.

my bro and i build his 1st b20vtec about 4 years ago..
stock 98 b20b block
stock 1st gen SiR b16 head
aem cams
aem fuel reg
aem fuel pump
itr intake
itr manifold
itr header 4-1
J1 b16 cable tranny
act 6 puck
fidanza 7lb fly
no rev limitor obd0 ls ecu

tuned by BsR at 191hp/157trq, yes stock internals.

ran a 12.6 best time at scaramento raceway..89 crx full poly wings west kit, full si interior on 22/14/8 m/t slicks open headers..

ran good for about 3.5-4 years before the head gave out (valves dropped and cam shaft seized up to the head)

in Feb 07 we build another b20vtec for his 91 wagon..

stock 99 b16 head
same stock 98 b20b block
b16 tranny grind 3rd and 4th!
act 6 puck
fidanza 7lb fly
str cams
aem fuel reg
stock intake box
stock usdm type r headers
no rev limitor

ran a 14.0 on 22 slicks open headers, full interior. untuned and grinded 3rd and 4th..sold the car about 3 days ago

Have you dynoed the second rebuild? That first one seems like outrageous numbers for what you've done.

no the second one was never tuned..seen the track only twice and the car was traded for a mint EG..everyone that was there for the 1st setup dynoing was suprise that is made that much, alot of people on hondatech dont believe that my brothers stock internal b20vtec put out that much power..but it did. ask Chad Barber himself..

if you are buying the b20, why dont you take your time? are you in a hurry? just take you time.

do it right the first time, or do it twice if you know what i mean.

yes camgears, the STR cams that was put in there was on the second build and it wasnt a tuned motor so the Cams were never adjusted..

Just get throw some arp rod bolts in there with some RS pistons and with machine work youll still probably be under $500.
If your going N/A, you want more compression than what the stock pistons are gonna give you.
(my opinion)
