Honda 99 civic lx cd player e-00
Ok, so I have a 99 civic lx and my cd player has been acting up. When I put a burnt cd in the player SOMETIMES it works without a problem, but other times it gives me the E-00 error. I but store bought cd's in the tray and they play without problems? Is this a problem on all? Should I buy a air duster and dust the inside out? When I eject the cd there is a line of dust on the cd straight across. Also why does it sometimes play burnt but always store bought? Is store bought different? SO many questions but I think 1 answer would solve em' all. Thanks.
I've had the exact same problem. There are two things you can do to alleviate the situation:
1) Buy a can of compressed air. Take the top cover off the CD player and blow compressed air in through the disc slot.
2) Buy quality CD-R's (one with dark media foil). Memorex, Datek, and TDK work very well for me. Also, burn at a lower speed (8x maximum).

It makes a more "thorough" burn. Kinda hard to explain, but the laser moves slower, data is transfered slower, so the burn is deeper.

Yeah, burning at lower speeds tend to make better CDs/DVDs. If I burn DVDs really fast, it tends to skip around when I am playing it. Same with CDs.

Well heres the status, my cd that previously burnt at x48 is working again and so is x8, so i dunno why this is happening, maybe the cd player needs to cool down?
You guys are lucky, the OEM Honda CD player in my 98 Civic EX Coupe doesn't paly any burned CDs at all. I wonder if is because I burn them all at 52X? Next CD I make I will slow down the burn speed. I have heard that burning DVDs with higher speed burners can have issues in DVD players, so this kind of makes sense? I should also try the compressed air in mine, guess it couldn't hurt at this point.
