Im trying to figure out what is wrong with my transmission. When ever I go into my third gear and im over 5000 rpm it makes some grind noise and i have no idea why. Does anyone think they know what it might be?

 

I think you need to get rid of it you broke it.

 

its most likely your syncros, even my old hatch and my buddies car 3 gear always grinds a lil bit, its deff the syncros, my recent car never grids but almost every car i knew or drove 3rd gear was the issue, im guessing common issue with honda/acura trannys?

 

yea what the guy ^ their said try puttting in syncro mesh in your tranny it might go away might not but u can try it.

 

I had a grind in third. I thought it was the syncros so I ordered a set. Turned out to be the 3rd 4th gearset. They were rounded out. When I bought the gearset it came with a set of syncros. Take it apart before assuming syncros r the problem.

 

if that doesnt work your gonna need to take it to the shop

yep what ^ he said.i asked how much it would cost to repair a syncro the mechanic told me its not worth getting it rebuilt because they cant just fix 1 they would fix the whole tranny with new parts which is good but it cost like 1300 and he says its better looking for a whole new tranny at the junk yard but theirs a chance that it might be messed up too.

Tranny shops r full of it. U can get a set of syncros off Gearspeed for 150 and thats for 3rd,4th, and 5th. If u know how to take da tranny apart it would only take like 10 min. to change them out.

 

my 5th gear used to grind when i shifted above 4000 rpm. it stopped after i changed my tranny fluid.

 

where would you pick up the syncro mesh?

 

gm syncro mesh can be bought from a local gm dealerships parts department.......that is good stuff.....royal purple gear mesh is good too and can be bought from any parts store that carries royal purple products
