Try using penentrating oil. I Could NOT get my rusted axle nuts off... I mean, we had a 5 foot breaker, and both my brother and I were torquing on it... enough to move the car!!! but no axlenut release. Finally squirted some liquid wrench in, tapped it with a hammer, and BOOM. It cam right off... give it a shot.
tried it..but im gonna let it sit til morning..if it wont come off then, im going to a big rig repair shop to see if they have a huge impact wrench
You'll need to take it to a shop that has a good impact gun. Nothing else will remove it. I tried everything in my garage... I ended up renting a compressor, and used my impact gun. It'll take a minute or so of continuous hammering to break it free, but it'll come.
nope.. used that impact gun for about 5 minutes straight on it.. nothing..the breaker bar we used was putting more torque on it than the gun anyway.. i put some penetrating oil on it and we will see how that goes tomorrow morning.. if that wont work, its off to the big rig shop for a REAL impact gun.
thanks
thanks
Remember to go Clockwise, not counterclockwise lile when you loosen the rest of the bolts on our cars.. remember that our D Series motors spin counterclockwise, so to loosen anthing you would go clockwise, just as if you were tightening something else on your car.. I had that same problem with mine, then remembered that fact and then we got it off no problemo...
huh? the crank bolt is "regular thread" not left hand. THe only left hand threads I can think of on the entire car are the diff. ring gear bolts.
A bigger impact wrench is only going to beat the **** out of your rod/main bearings even more. Get a gas torch and heat the bolt until it barely glows. I guarantee that it will come right off like butter.

the torch wouldn't even do it???
all i had to do for mine was put some penetrating oil, hit it with a hammer a few times and i used a breaker bar, had to put all my weight into it, but it came loose.
i have no idea what to tell you, good luck though

Here is what I did:
Went to sears, bought a long 1/2-socket extension so it would come out of the wheel well.
Also bought a 17 mm impact socket (any other socket will brake)
Got a 8 foot flag pole
Then I used a jack stand to support the socket extension that comes out of the wheel well, put the flagpole on the wrench, and then put everything I got into it.
I bent a craftsman 1/4" socket in half before I got the bolt off(it was holding the crank in place), but it came off.
Good luck!

nope.. im bringing it to my pals shop tomorrow.. im gonna end up paying $ to get that fugger off
the thing that really sucks is, the only reason i have to do the timing belt is cause i put on a d16y8 head.. had i just been happy with my stock slow motor, i would still be driving! gosh darn it!

17mm socket + 2ft extension + 6ft breaker bar + guy to hold pulley still + 220 pound guy to put force on the breaker bar =
There should be a hole or 2 in the crank pulley. Find a bolt big enough to fit snug in one of those holes. Now take a chain, put you bolt through one of the links and into the crank pulley hole. Now run the chain up to your engine mount and loop it around, keep it tight. You should be able to keep the crank puller from moving this way. This also helps when torquing it back down.
I used a 20ft external attenna mast as a breaker bar one time......That was funny ****.
