Default Honda gurus look here

Look story short:

Bought a supposedly sleeved built gsr block from a local shop, they only gave me a hand-written reciept for purchase. I was told they were darton dry sleeves old style since the block has sat for 2 1/2 years. I contacted darton east and no reply.
Any help is appreciated

85mm 9:1 piston/rod combo unsure of brand new rod caps
micropolished crank
z10 girdle
all new bearings
fluid damper/oil sump
moroso oil pan
blockguard

Also does anyone know the piston/rod combo? there is no markings or names on them

Aluminum rods are probably just a teeny tiny bit unnecessary for a street setup

It certainly has sleeves and its also been o-ringed. I can't tell you what sleeves but they look pretty beefy. Thats whack they didn't give you the rod ends?

Dude call the carlsbad facility. On any given day i can call them and I will get an answer. The east facility has a lot going on so maybe they are just super busy. The carlsbad one is always ready to help.

OEM sleeves + block guard; you got shafted. Rods are no good without their own individual caps.

You ever heard that saying???

Its better to look like an idiot then to open your mouth and remove all doubt?? Seriously, you don't know what you are talking about therefore you shouldn't spread false information. Next time make sure you are 100% certain before you pop off your mouth. Yes the block is sleeved and yes its o-ringed. I am 200% certain by looking at the pictures. Let me guess your gonna come back with "oh **** I didn't see those pictures, yeah its sleeved".

Contacted darton carlsbad location today I sent them photos and i will have a definite answer tommorow from there tech. As of right now it seems to be a machined aftermarket sleeve not oem so hopefully they are old school dartons as i was told.

This is what rob from darton international and there techs replied to me:

This sleeve appears to be a custom design, possibly made from our material, though only verifiable through lab testing. We might be able to install our MID Kit in the block but would have to inspect it first. It will be determined by what dimensions the block has been bored to accept those sleeves. If it is been bored larger than our MID Sleeve we would not be able to sleeve it.

Pricing for the sleeves are $575.00 and installation is an additional $600.00.

To answer your question the sleeves in the original Honda block were cast in the production process so they are not replaceable. They would have to be machined out and replaced with an aftermarket sleeve like we offer. There are a few companies that sleeve these blocks and cut o-ring grooves but none of the oem blocks are this way and almost no manufacturers offer oem replacement sleeves.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thank you,

Rob Severns

Those rods are probably beyond their service life, and even if they were brand new, with the rod caps, you'd have to replace them on a regular basis...and I don't mean every 100k miles either.
