"D17Z Series Engines (1.4 Litre)"

That doesn't make much sense...if it was a 1.4L engine, It would have the D14 prefix, not D17.

An independant, non-Honda affiliated or endorsed site listing a bunch of info provided by God knows who, and I'm supposed to take it as gosphel truth?

No thanks.

By the way one huge, gaping hole to poke in that bullshit spec list is that the 1987 chassis and 1988 chassis are entirely DIFFERENT and there's no way in hell the same engine can be found in a 1987-1991 Civic/CR-X seeing as how they are two completely different generation chassis.

Here you go, 1984-1987 chassis:

1988-1991 chassis:

Engine bays are 100% totally different with completely different engine mount locations. There's no way in hell a 1987 engine fits into a 1988 model chassis without EXTENSIVE modifications.

Who runs that site? People quote Wikipedia for "facts" yet many different people can edit and change/upload information. Same could be the case here. I'm not saying they are maliciously lying, but unless you can show me a picture of this "D17Z" engine with a factory supercharger, and show me some shred of evidence that it's a 1.4L with a 1.7L block code I will call bullshit.

Honda names engines after their displacement - D17 = 1.7L engine. They do offer a D17A 1.7L engine in their later model 2001-up Civics.

I've been working on Hondas since 1996 and have been scouring the internet about them since 1999 or so and this is the first I've ever even heard of such an engine.

I know a lot of obscure engines such as the Honda Coty turbocharged 1200cc engine, the Euro ZC engine found in the Rover SUV that sports an odd non-Honda valvecover, the B18C6 Type R engines, etc. etc. I'm not saying this supercharged engine can't exist unless I've heard of it, but I'm telling you as someone who has been following Hondas for a long, long time this sounds like utter bullshit.

"if it was on the internet, it must be true" .. .lol

If you must, call up Honda of America in ohio ( i think its in ohio, right?) , ask for the main tech guy on staff, and ask away.

I called them when i needed information on the OBD2 JDM D15b with 3-stage VTEC. They were very helpful.

Okay let me explain something to you.

The only difference between continents is perhaps the year the generation changes.

Example?

In japan they get the body change 1 year before the US does. This means their 1991 Civic is actually the EG chassis like we got starting in 1992. Their 1995 Civic was our 1996 EK Civic, etc. etc.

What never changes is how many years each chassis is sold.

Example?

A 1987 Civic could very well be a EF chassis in Europe, meaning it looks like our 1988-1991 Civic. That also means their 1991 Civic would have to be our 1992 EG Civic chassis. The body/chassis changes are global, meaning the EA chassis ran for 4 years, the EF/ED chassis ran for 4 years, the EG/EH chassis ran for 4 years, and the EK chassis ran for 4 years.

They list 5 years - 1987 to 1991 - which is completely retarded.

Again the burden of proof lies on those of you foolish enough to use a few random bullshit websites as a "reference" that this engine actually exists.

Show us all pics of the car, the engine, and a genuine Honda website specsheet for the car and/or engine or you cannot prove it even exists.

Must be something real wrong with it.

Like the reliability of a crack addict or something.

Even if it does exist, I've never heard a peep about it - and it's not like you can just counter that **** with "that's because it's rare" because you hear about every motor . I mean I haven't been in the Honda game long, but never hearing of a motor that supposedly puts as much power down as that? It had to be a real POS.

I thought the D17's were all 7th gen Civics, too, no?

Hey smart guys check this link out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine

I literally edited information at the bottom of the page.

While I could have easily posted bullshit misinformation and blatantly or not so blatanly ruined that entire page I actually did everyone a service and posted a disclaimer about this mythical "D17Z supercharged" engine since the only "proof" it ever existed are the same lame-*** editable or non-referenced websites repeating the same bullshit they saw listed on each others lame "reference" sites.

See how easy that was to modify?

My point is that if I can go in and edit a "reference" site (even though I edited it with useful information) ANYONE can edit and repeat the same bullshit rumored engine specs.

Honda names engines almost always the same way.

D = Engine series ("D" usually refers to a SOHC engine)
17 = Engine literage. 17 means it's a 1.7L.

So right away... we know the engine code is wrong.

Honda has produced turbocharged engines in the past, but I've never heard of a factory supercharged engine by Honda or that came in a Honda. It doesn't really make sense to make a production Civic in Europe with a 1.4L supercharged engine. Which they also say is a 1.7L and a 1.8L.

And yes, some countries use model years (like the US) while others don't. So my EJ8, which was assembled in the summer of 1997, would be called a 1997 in Japan (for example). Here it's called a 1998 though.

http://psaclub.net/showthread.php?t=1478

Pretty much all info I see posted about it was posted starting October of this year.

* Note/Disclaimer There is a listing for a "D17Z" engine that is listed as being a "1.4 litre" engine and is also listed as being factory supercharged, 216bhp, and found in various 1987-1991 Euro spec Civics and CR-Xs. This engine is listed on various websites, including Wikipedia and other online "encyclopedias." There are no existing pictures, or actual proof that this engine has ever existed in production, or even prototype form.

* There are numerous problems with this "D17Z" engine:

* Suspicious especially is the "D17Z" block code when the engine is allegedly listed as "1.4 litres" which completely goes against Honda's usage of engine cc in their engine block codes. a "D17" engine will be 1.7L as found in 2001-up Civics. a "D14A" engine will be 1.4L, D16A 1.6L, B18A 1.8L, etc. etc.

* The engine is listed as being available in the "1987-1991" Civic GL, but the chassis and generation of Civic was completely overhauled from 1987-1988 including base engines, mounting points, etc.

* The listed horsepower output of "216ps" rivals the latest turbocharged 2.3L DOHC -VTEC K23A powerplant found in the current Acura RDX at 240hp. With the Honda community being so horsepower crazed why hasn't this "D17Z 1.4L supercharged 216hp" engine been much more publicized and sought after?

* Any sites quoting the specs for a "D17Z" supercharged 1.4L engine as "facts" never list viable sources, and there has never been any VALID documentation that this engine ever existed as far as actual Honda websites spec listings goes. It seems as though many websites quote the same specs as "reference" without actually having a true, legitimate source of proof that this engine ever existed.
