oversized valves?

hey guys. im jus trying to learn a little about oversized valves. i cant seem to find any info anywhere. so i'll try here.
when do u use oversized valves and wat is there advantage?
do u need to modify anything?

It is my understanding that oversize valves do indeedy increase the flow of air into the engine, and also help it get the F*** out of there and down your pipe better. although my experience came from modifying austin mini motors, we used to have the valve seats recut and occasionally use a thicker gasket to stop the valves hitting the piston crowns.
so yes it is possible, theoretically, just needs planning, sometimes we also had to modify the outer edge of the combustion chamber on the head to allow for clearance.
But please don't take my word as gospel as the cars I used to build engines for were designed in the 60's
