I am a huge Jaguar fan.
It's too bad Jaguar tuned that car the way they did (specifically the transmission's shift programme) because that thing has got some serious potential. And it's gorgeous!

yes. the s-type is built on the taurus platform.
The S-Type and the Lincoln LS platform were developed together, and share the same architecture. The only part of the S-Type that can be said is remotely related to a Taurus is the base 3.0 V6, which is a development of the Ford Duratec.
If you seen the new Jaguar R Types in black I would take one..there very very nice. Though I've really liked the new Saab 9-3 saloon that just came out in Europe..looks very sweet in black.

Secondly, the S-Type and Lincoln LS shared suspension and unibody tubs through 2002. NO IMPROVEMENTS have been made to the LS. Jaguar "took the ford out" of the car in '03 as 70% of the car has been revamped and refined. I spent 2 days in a training class learning about all the improvements. Suspension, engine (base 3.0 gets Cosworth heads now), ZF tranny, new separate engione and equipment harness, etc. The S-Type R only shares sheetmetal with it's predecesors, as the dash, suspension, and, electronics are new from scratch. Hence the price increase.

What you talking about most of the V6's were smoothed over by Ford Cosworth.
The Type R verison doesn't even come with V6 it's a SC/V8. There is also 4.2V8 engine for the regular S type.
The R Type makes 400bhp, 408lb of tq.
It uses a 6 speed auto which has gotten good reviews in Europe.
0-60mph 5.3 sec also has traction control and yaw control.

I am somewhat undecided if I like Jaguar or not.. I used to a little bit, but now I think they are becoming too common of a car. I see them everywhere.. I liked Jaguar when they were somewhat exclusive. Oh well, there's always Bentley..
Wouldn't that be an RSR Porsche? For thar matter Mazda had an R too.. R100...
RX2.. RX3..etc
Oh and you can't get warm beer in England any more at a pub... everything is served chilled now...
Lucas the prince of darkness has finally been defeated...

Just about every company has had an R, M or an S variant of a car. What matters about a car is performance, quality and the driving pleasure it gives. A name means nothing. Just about every ricer has an "R" sticker on their ride somewhere.
