I need Help with a Few questions.
First Off i just bought a 99 Civic automatic DX. I wanted a 2dr manual civic, but when only one car lot will finance you, you will take what you can get but that is beside the point. My question are, one DX has rear drum brakes is there anyway I convert them to discs. I have only found kits for EX's. Second question is I plan on swapping a LS/VTEC into it when I am done with a my medical Bullshit. I can convrtthe auto to a manuel as long I get 5spd brake booster,Clutch Pedal Assemblie, Brake Pedal Assemblie, and all hardeawre and hoses.
1- Rear disc conv. shouldn't be a problem; easiest (and cheapest) way would be to find at a salvage yard the trailing arm, along with the calipers, rotors, E-brake cables, Etc from a suitable donor vehicle ( any 96-2k Civic w. rear disc would work, along with if I'm not mistaken any 94 up Integra). I would reccomend discard the stock brake lines at this point and replace them with braided steel lines for better pedal feel. Upgrade your pads (Hawks are good IMO) and use some good synthetic fluid (Motul
) and volia! You have good brakes!
2- Since you're replacing the transmission when you do the LS-VTEC swap anyway, the auto to manual shouldn't be a problem. You were right; you'll need a clutch master cylinder, clutch, flywheel, blah, blah, blah, but if you're taking on a project the magnitude of a swap, it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck
