OK, I can't live without the damn dome light coming on when I open the door, any longer.
I found these instructions:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by somewhere I found by googlization »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
You can restore proper dome light operation by shorting together the
right couple of wires behind the radio. Specifically, there is a light
green wire with a black stripe (comes from the dome light) that needs to
be connected to a light green wire with a red stripe (comes from the
door switches).</TD></TR></TABLE>
Can anybody confirm that these are the right directions? Maybe I'm entering the wrong information into H-T but I can't find **** through H-T search.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Somebody else Via Google »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">short together the LT GRN/RED
wire (from door switches) and the LT GRN/BLK wire (to dome </TD></TR></TABLE>
So it says the same thing, cut and crimp/solder the green one with the red stripe and the green one with the black stripe - so what's the deal here, one's going to be from an empty plug and the other is going to be on its way to the radio or something?

EVERY civic from '92-'00 with a dome light had a switch with three settings, Off, "open", and On.
On '96-'00 civics, the receiver box for the keyless entry is on the rear of the radio, it is set up so that when you unlock the doors, the dome light lights up.
Removal of the stock radio disables two functions, A) It disables your keyless entry, and B) it disables the dome light to come on when the door is open (the middle switch position).
In order two override that there are two possibilities, you can A) get a splitter and stuff the OEM radio in the back some place (so you have 2 radios in your dash, but only the OEM one is visible (half assed)), or B) You can put a regular aftermarket deck in there and by-pass the radio for the dome light wires. This allows your dome light to come on when you open the door and restores function to the middle switch position.
Now I'm not looking for your list of Hondas that you've owned, I'm looking for somebody who's done this before as I'm not sure as to the arrangement of the wires (which wire comes out of where) before I tear it apart, nor if those colors are even 100% accurate.
EDIT:
In '92-'95 civics, the wires for the dome light to the door switch were not routed through the radio, as they did not have optional keyless entry.

You're right, you don't know, so shut the **** up.
Your factory alarm nor dome light's "door open" function WILL NOT work upon removal of the stock radio UNLESS you by-pass the radio (which I"m looking to do).
It was either done to your car, OR somebody just got a splitter and your stock radio is just buried in your dash some place.
It's not half-assed, it's the only feasible option opposed to leaving my OEM radio in the dashboard. If anything, it's the NOT half-assed way.
I don't know what your problem is with me and quite frankly I don't care, but get off my dick.

I don't have the OEM radio anymore, or I do have it and it's buried in my basement some place. Though that's irrelevant, the point is that I like to have CD's plus the audio jack interface that my current head unit has since i use an iPod all the time.
It's just two wires that I have to splice together, but I can't figure out where the hell they're coming from.

Thx, their concensus usually is though: "buy a splitter and leave the OEM head unit in the dash."
I just looked at my Honda service manual and it seems as though they're both wires coming from the B connector, from the looks of things the B connector is security only and it probably wasn't connected to the aftermarket head unit. So I think I just cut those wires out of the plug and splice 'em together.

I just went out there and did it.
Yeah, it's take the plug that has nothing going to it (the security wire that goes to the OEM radio, goes to nothing when you have an aftermarket one in there), then on the bottom row, the 3rd from the right is a grn/red one, and the last one on the left is a grn/black one, cut 'em both, splice 'em (I couldn't fit splicers up there so I used a lighter), crimp 'em (or solder them), and it works 100%.

i never had to do any of that in my 00 em1. all my lights come on when the door opens, unless if i leave the key in. the keyless locks work too so your wrong with every one is like that. unless if the adapter plug that i got to hook up my stereo had it already spliced. but i thought that the 99-00's had all the lock and light **** moved to the driver door instead of the radio?

That's what I thought too, I thought the corrected the problem in '98 by putting the locking receiver on the driverside kick panel, after realizing that in the '96 and '97 models, everybody swapped out the head units and resulted in keyless entry failure.
I'll look up the keyless entry of the 99/00 models just for kicks, but it really matters null to me as mine's a '97 and has (had) it in back of the radio.

Yeah, I just checked the H manual, '99/'00 models had their keyless entry systems located in the driverside kick panel, from the diagram it looks very similar to the power door lock control module located in the door.
You shouldn't have had to do that from replacing a stock receiver unit on a '99/'00 model.
Oh well, this is necessary on '96-'98 models. Unless you A) Don't want a dome light, or B) Decide to be weird about it and splice the harness and shove your OEM head unit in the dashboard some place -- I see that method as half assed..I don't see it as cheaper nor do I see it as easier.

Yea after I posted I caught on you had taken care of it, my bad.
Yea I dont know why I had to do it that way. I was in the process of hooking up my column light and realized I had no dome. I checked out a bunch of stuff and came up empty. I know the car had an alarm at one point, but was removed, so I dont know if that had anything to do with it or not, but its working and everything else does, so I guess its aight.
