Default ASR 24mm Rear sway bar setup!

I just picked up this 24mm rear sway bar setup from Charleston at ASR and I must say, every product I purchase from ASR is extremely impressive. Charleston really knows how to engineer these products, and as always his quality is top notch! I can't wait to get this thing on the car tomorrow! These endlinks are Aurora bearings, and check out those D brackets!

I'll update this thread with install/driving impressions once its on and I have some driving time and an event on it.

haha, yea I've been on a Diesel shoe buying spree. I've purchased like 3 pairs in the past 4 weeks.

The D brackets and endlinks are part of why i decided to upgrade from the 22mm.

I just went out for a drive with it. At first its not that obvious, but as you start to push a bit the car feels solid, slightly flatter, and more confident. It feels like its saying "thats all? C'mon turn in more!" It feels like there is just more grip available now. I did not want to push the car on public streets, so this is all the feedback I could gather while maintaining reasonable and safe speeds.

I did one ebrake turn in a large empty open area to get a feel for how it acts when its loose. (I know) It broke loose quickly and just kept sliding. It was like "imma just keep sliding till you do something about this". It seems like I won't enjoy as progressive of a break loose point but should remain very controllable when loose.

I won't know more about this until I have it out on the track again. Overall, the difference from the 22mm is apparent, and I'm very happy with my purchase. (as always with ASR)

Yes, I used to have the ITR bar. I can feel a difference on the street, but util I get it on the track, I can't give you details on its new characteristics.

Can I get Charleston at ASR info? I need to order one of these kits for my ITA EG. I like the bigger bar over the ITR bar but I think the straight bar they offer might be too much for the hatch. This 24mm sounds like the way to go!

I saw this setup in person and it looks great. I might pick it up for my DC2.

Im just wondering do people think this set up (24mm) is a bit much for driving on the street? This is in an eg hatch that did have the oem sir bar on but because i changed from loop to fork suspension i now have no bar at all and cant decide weather to go for the 22 or 24mm bar kit...

Is it strictly a street car? If so, whether it's too much or not, it's WAY overkill. There's no reason you need something like that on a street car.

at the moment yes, though i may try and get it on the track at some point over the summer. Im going to get a 22mm anyway but wasnt sure if it was worth buying the 24mm or not or weather it would make the rear that bit too twitchy.

I am basically a country road driver really(not that you get many of those roads out in the US)

Stick with a 22mm bar. That'll be fine for track use (I'm still using one after like 4 years), and won't be miserable on the street.

The 24mm is surprising no more twitchy or loose feeling then the 22mm. I do feel that the car is more willing to rotate, but mostly what I feel is a more confident turning characteristic and what feels like more overall grip.

Its difficult to truly evaluate without getting it on the track though.

For a street only car, you'll be fine with the 22mm, but the 24mm is not dangerous, nor is it overkill.

Says the experienced driver

I was taking into consideration those endlinks, which wouldn't like frequent street use. And if you say the car feels like it rotates easier, I take that to mean spinning out for a n00b. I've seen it happen with other cars/drivers, where something we think is ok...just isn't for them.

well yes the endlinks won't last as long, but I think anyone considering a 24mm rear sway bar understands that concept.

Someone who doesn't understand driving dynamics may find it easy to spin my car, but I hardly feel that they would mimic my rear heavy suspension setup. (which is still relatively light compared to what I see on this forum)

Also, people think that going from the ITR to this 24mm is a massive change, it really is not. Characteristics may be comparable to how the car would feel if you added 50 pounds per spring in rear, and 25 in front.

Guys,

Please keep in mind that a persons setup will GREATLY affect how the car reacts to a certain swaybar.

I've got the 22mm ASR combo on my EK street car and I hate letting my wife drive the car because it's very loose if pushed to far.
Granted, I'm running pretty soft springs with Koni's on it and the bar is a big change during cornering for the car and tires to cope with.
Someone with a much stiffer setup would not find the car nearly as loose as mine!

A setup has to be talked about as complete and not just single parts...

This kit is another awesome ASR product though..
