Default a few Q's about my new DA teggy

well i am buying this from my friend no matter what. he is totally car eliterate and is just a big pot head. anywho i am a civic guy and know that the DA isnt really to much different to the EF. but my questions are when he had the car it died on him and wouldnt start (this was in the summer time) and now he decided to sell it so i am picking it up.

what i am wondering is if any of you might know what might be the issue and what the tegs are known for going. now it has a B16 swap in it also. my first guess right off the bat was dizzy, but am gonna be checking the main relay and fuel pump aswell once i get it to my house. and just for the heck of it i wanna run a compression test so i know some what of the condition it maybe running.

i know my civic was bad for the dizzy messing up and i dont have it here yet to fully diagnose it but am just looking for a few ideas that might be something i can look out for.

much appreciated aswell. p.s. i will have picks up once she comes home. hopefully this weekend.

thanks again

make sure fuel pumps working, check to see if getting spark through the wires... if no spark then could be dizzy, cap, rotor, spark plug wires, main relay... if getting spark and fuel then could be bad ground some where, needs new plugs, timing could be off too...

my car died like that multiple times now (doing tons of customizing) and eash time was something different... first was needed new coil in the dizzy, then i needed new plugs and wires, next i had a bad ground, and then main relay went, then i just blew ignition fuse... theres a lot of things to check but i bet its probably the coil in the dizzy... so check to see if you have spark and fuel first...

nice, thanks ls19. sounds like you have bad luck lol.
how much was it for the new coil?

also is it just the coil that goes bad in the dizzy or ignitor.
if i want to go order the coil what should i order it for car and model wise? does it matter if its B16A or B? or any B-series coil ok? also could i use a D-series coil in the B-series dizzy?

sorry for all the Q's Lol just wondering so then i can get it running faster. the faster i get it running the faster i will start farting around with it, i loose ambition working on a car when its not running.

Obvious but check battery, and ALL fuses.
Also alternators can be a common issue.

yeah fuses are another on my list, but alternators?
you can have a car run without an alternator, how would that effect the car to turn over? just curious

Not charging the battery so your car doesn't get any power. If your battery is dead, it could be the problem. If you have no power you can take your battery to Kragen/napa and they'll check the battery. If the battery is ok then your alternator is bad.

no the car turns over and over but wont actually start.
the motor turns over, either no spark or fuel or something electrical ahhh!

actually you made me think of something else to try. i am gonna check if the alternator is seized cause i had that happen to me before aswell. alternator seized up and car stalled and wouldn't actually turn over.

gonna try and boost it after removing the alternator belt.
also that cat could be clogged too, will un hook the exhaust and go to the extreme i think if the dizzy doesn't do it.

im waiting for a message back from a buddy of mine to see if he's got a spare dizzy to slap on and try out.

thanks again.

with a bad alternator it should start but will kill the battery... just had to replace battery 3 times now in last week before it hit me to check the alternator and sure enough its shot... but with the bad alternator my car runs but not for long till battery dies... but as you said clogged cat could do that also but moneys on the dizzy most likely...

so i finally got the car homw today (well my girl friend did and her mom and uncle) big thanks to them for helping me out.

also i found out that my problem isnt getting the car to run, its getting it to move. i thru in a battery and turn of the key she fired nope like no problem, no knock or nothing sounds mint*. but i went to go press on the clutch and the pedal was at the floor??? it is running a cable tranny so i was looking around the tranny cable and tranny arm to see and it looks like it is fully disengaged?? i hammerd the arm down with a pry bar and hammer and it goes down slowly, then get it press it and she goes to the ground and gets stuck again?? is this maybe a clutch problem or tranny problem?

here are a few pics aswell, after everyone gets to see my new toy/project and lets me know what they think i will then tell you guys what i got it for and give afew of you oldtymers a heart attack.(you can guess if you like ,it would make it more fun) anyways off to the pics for now.

it has the mesh wheels, lowered with i dunno what yet well coilovers but brand i havent checked yet), JDM 1 piece heads etc...

its funny cause i have seen the car many many times but never asked about it and never looked hard at it, so me thinking its a bone stock teggy going to look at it for the first time and popped the hood hmmmmmm...i then kept my mouth shut till i got the car now i dont care if it gets out because its mine now.

this is what i had found benieth the hood
a B16A with a set of DC sport headers...i know he had no clue what he had and what i was getting cause of how much i got it for.

Wow thats nasty looking underneath there. But anyhow, if this was not answered yet no you can not use a D-series coil, best bet is to replace everything, the spark plug wires, spark plugs, and the Dizzy, u want a B series VTEC Dizzy for your car. Also replace the fuel filter, alot of ppl get propblems because of that. To check your fuel pump simply put ur car into the ON position and listen for it, ull hear the pump (located in the Gas Tank underneath your rear seats), you will hear it start up. Regarding ur Clutch problem, maybe after the swap somebody fu**ed up the cable see if the notch on ur clutch cable is loosend all the way. Its located on the cable thats right by your head if you press your clutch in ull see the cable move. Follow that all the way and it should go near your battery and Air intake. If its loose tighten it to about the middle, see if that helps. Much Luck.

BTW i think we can all agree, the 91 teggys are obd-0 and have THE most wiring issues. EVERY person, including myself, that has owned a 91 integra that i know has had wiring issues, now the 92 and 93 integras are obd-1 and have almost no electrical problems. So be prepared to say WTF when you hit your left turn signal and the right one turns on...<-----personal experience

Lol, ya im up for that tho. haha sounds like crap and im sure it wouldn't be to hard to get used to signaling backwards haha.

well i dont need to look at anything to get the car running cause it runs mint, i think it might just be a sticky main relay so i will repair that in time or replace it. as for the dizzy i dont need to swap or repair it either as the car runs fine now.

my main concern is the tranny.i have loosened it off all the way and tried that already too but the arm on the tranny seems to be either semi seized or something like a spring or something maybe gone or the pressure plate fugged. i can wack it into place but then when i press the pedal down the arm lifts back up and just sticks there till i hammer it back down.

i am gonna be pushing it into the garage tomorrow or tuesday-wednesday are my 2 days off so i might find time then to remove the tranny and start investigating.

yeah it is kinda dirty under there but that will all get cleaned up same for the interior. was a detailer for 3 years so thats just a day of fun for me .

also when it was broken down some ****** broke in thru the passenger side(removed the handle) broke the glove box, and stole the oil cap off the motor (i think there the ones who broke the windshield too and sunroof.

well i havent meet up with him yet gotta wait till i go visit my mom still he lives out her way.

the car never had smashed windshield and stuff tho when it broke down on him, it broke down in toronto and it has been sitting there since the summer. he hasnt seen it since and i told him about all everything being smashed and broken into and i might get it for less $20- $30.
