Default Knocking rear swaybar (updated with pics)

Hey all,

I recently installed my 22mm CTR rear swaybar + ASR brace.. I noticed that everytime I take a corner hard, there seems to be a knocking sound coming from the rear.

Does anyone know why? I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

Could it be my endlinks? There not exactly 90degrees to the LCA..

Not sure if this will help. My Comptech swaybar can move over to the side far enough to knock against the shock body. It wasn't a problem when I first installed, but after months of driving over the speed bumps in my complex with just the passenger side, it slowly migrated the swaybar over far enough to knock against the shock.

Check your shock body for missing paint.

check the exhaust clearance too. it can definately rattle around and hit things, especially in turns.

put jackstands under the arms to load the suspension on both sides, it will give you a more accurate look at what could be hitting.

My endlinks aren't 90degrees to the LCAs..

Also I noticed one of my rubber hangers is rubbing on the Spoon N1.. but I can't see how this is making a noise.

Did you check your end links with the car on the ground? My end links on my ITR rear swaybar leans forward when my suspension is at full droop, but they're pretty much straight up and down when the car is on the ground (the ends of the sway bar rotate up as the suspension is compressed, which pulls the end links back to become straight up).

Also, make sure you haven't installed the sway bar upside down. This can cause clearance issues, possibly with the sway bar making contact with the LCA.

Can you post pics of your setup?

I have a clunk coming from the rear of my car...for the longest time I couldn't figure out what it was...until I finally found that the driver side rear trailing arm bushing was busted. You can check them fairly easily by poking your head under the rear quarter panel just behind the door. If they have cracks in them...they're pretty-much done for.

I've had a clunk or pop sound from the rear occassionally for a long time now. I cant find a crack in the subframe (which i have seen in other cars), loose bolts, worn mounts, shock hitting, exhaust or body hitting. Sometimes I wonder if it might be my trunk shifting b/c it normally happens going up into a driveway at an angle, twisting the chassis basically. It still happens every once in a while and the car has a welded in roll bar.

I can see anything cracked, I also did not put on those rear backing plates as my car is a '99 model and it seemed as if there was already something welded on to the subframe..

Here are the pics:

no those scratches are from removing the exhuast and resting it on the LCA

Are those your OEM endlinks or were they new with the rear bar? If there oem, the are probably worn and have play in them. I go threw a set of heim-joint links once every 3-4 months due to horrible roads in michigan(st rear bar).

while the car is fully sitting on the ground, grab the sway bar between the bend and the endlinks, and wiggle the **** out of them, if there is any play, its going to be magnified greatly while driving. Are you hearing your clunk mainly entering or exiting places with sloped entrances/exit's or over bumps in the road?

Yeah its mainly entering and exiting slopes, and bumps over the road. Its pretty much knocking, like knocking on wood - that kind of sound. I think i'll remove it and put back my 13mm.

Make sure you grease the fittings. I had the same noise, and it turned out to be dry mounts and P/U bushings. Grease those puppies up.

just replace your endlinks we see this all the time at the dealerships, or take sway bar off and if it goes away you know your problem.

I thought I had the same problem as you. My setup is close except I have a WS2. My problem turned out to be a wheel bearing in the back. I was stumped and thought it was my sway at first and then the exhaust hitting the gas tank. It may be worth checking into.
