Default single stick built...

i was thinking about building a nitrous motor. i have a d15b7 im doing a y8 head and gasket for 10:1 compression first. then a cheap header - whatever i end up finding skunk2 intake mani and throttle body zex 75 wet kit zex cam and cam gear. AEm fuel rail and AEM V2 cold air. how much power do you think ill end up with? has anyone done anything like this before? if so how did you like it for an everyday driver?

The c/r didnt look bad, but you might just want to get a z6 or y8 depending on your obd, because im not sure if well the b7 bottom end will handle.

Honestly I'd trust a B7 bottom end over any D16Y series block all day, every day. Ideally an old D16A6 block with cast iron mains would be ideal, but the 92-95 D16Z6 bottom end would still be nice.

Anything SOHC is going to have rods as the weak link when it comes too boost, because the SOHC stuff is very thin.

Have you played with any compression calculators to verify your CR theory with a B7 bottom with a Y8 head?

I've heard of the z bottom ends being supperior to the y's. But the intake mani are the other way around. Do you think y8 manifold would do just good as the skunk2 for a d-series?

Basically the IM off of the Y8 is the only thing better when comparing to the Z6 engine.

Others may argue about cylinder heads, but the Y8 has square combustion chambers with quench zones intended for fuel economy more so than flow/horsepower. Flow benching a stock Z6 vs. Y8 head shows the Z6 has the advantage, flow for flow.

There was a big topic about this on D-Series.org years ago. Both being fully ported pretty much equals things out, but honestly what D guys on budgets are springing for REAL headwork?

Some prefer Y8 heads because they can run less piston dome to get their desired CR, which is fine, but I'll take head flow any day and pop in higher piston domes to gain my CR, thanks. I've got P29 slugs in my D16A6 and it runs great, but the A6 head has larger combustion chambers so even with the Y8 head gasket and P29's I'm at a safe 11:1CR.

Sorry I got off on a tangent. Is the Y8 as good as a Skunk2 manifold?

I'm not sure, but I know it's cheap/free depending on where you get it. Just be sure it doesn't have the air injection bullshit, or you're in for some vacuum leaks or custom fabbing to seal the extra holes up! I forget which years/models have the air injection, sorry. It's either like 99-00 has them, or autos have them, etc.

99 and up have air injection holes a bit of jb weld goes a long way

it's easy to fill those holes they are just above the injectors and one main nipple that can be capped

I did on mine 20,000 kms ago and no problems

yes i did, the b7 bottom end + y8 head and gasket put it right at 10:1 there wasnt much differance with the z6 head which would match my obd but i already found the y8 head so ill try to make it work. also the guy i bought the car from wasted money on rebuilding the d15b7 lol so i trust the bottom end. no big deal if it blows though. thats the best part about playin with the single sticks.

that im not sure of. but if you anyone knows for sure it would save me $300 lol. i dont know if you have seen the b7 intake mani but its very tiny and i dont think im getting the y8 mani with the head. but i might try to now.

Again I can't say how much better or worse a Y8 manifold is compared to the Skunk 2, but I know for sure the Y8 manifold is tons better than the B7 manifold!

You know too I'm sure. A simple glance at each one tells the story.
